I have no idea what a keyway is, time for wikipedia I think.
Or if you know a place I can find a nice little diagram to educate myself...

So I'm one of the ones who has never experienced a grind from first to second, but it's always notchy, which means it's not "like butter" from one to two like all my other gears.

Lately, especially when cold, it was hard to put the car in first gear at a stop. I had to triple clutch it at times before it went in. I found the TSB relative to this issue and shared the issue with my dealer (TSB is referenced by me above in post #560). They told me the tranny will have to come out.

I dropped the car off and when I called later on in the day, dealer tells me they had to contact Chevy engineering who directed them to let the car sit 6 hours and then check it. They wanted it good and cold I guess. Well, sure enough, they experienced the problem. They dropped the trans and confirmed that two thirds of the pressure plate bolts were loose. They took it off and inspected the clutch for excessive damage and said there was none (I didn't think there would be). They then buttoned it up correctly per the TSB (red loctite #242).

Just thought I'd post for those with LT and SS cars built before February 2010. My dealer treated me right.

By the way, the fix has resolved my problem of not going into first gear. Still notchy of course...

Keep us posted if that solves it for good. Supposedly they did that to mine when they swapped the trans but about 3k later im having the exact same thing happen that you mentioned. What dealer did you go to?

Gates Chevy in South Bend. I bought it new there. Funny thing is the problem got worse after I had the dealer change the trans fluid back in October. I pressed them to make sure they put the right stuff in, and they did. Could've been a coincidence I suppose.

I have seen posts that reference "tightness" when the car is cold, which may be one of the downsides of the AY6.

I picked up my new 2011 2SS last Monday with only 48 km on the odometer. 500km (300 mi) later, I'm getting this grinding problem from 1st to 2nd and sometimes it's a bitch shifting into 2nd. Now I thought it was me as it's been 10+ years since I last drove a manual so I made sure I was very cognizant of the clutch. I made sure the clutch was all the way down and it still grinds regardless of the speed. It seems that the only common denominator is that it grinds when it is cold. After a couple of minutes of driving, the grinding goes away but the difficultly of shifting into 2nd still happens every now and again. Excitement turned to disappointment almost over night.

Will they care if i tighten the flywheel bolts myself? The tech busted the clip on my harness and then loosely zip tied it in place... Im guessing my level of work would be good enough!

I should be able to do this farly quickly. Whats the best way to determine the current torque on the bolts? My torque wrench is the type that snaps.. Do i need to rent a dial one? Anyone have the part number for the bolts?

Thanks for the info.

I just saw that indiana counts saturdays as business days. My cars at 23 days of the 30 days of service limit.
