GM Ground Effects - Painted??

I just ordered my convertible. I asked for the ground effect option (VTD). THe dealer told me it would be extra to have them painted. Does this makes sense???

Yup, not a factory option though it should be.

Usually they come in a dark gray finish, so yes to me it makes sense if they say they need to be painted... How much were they painted and not painted?

I had one dealership quote me $1,600.00 just for the parts unpainted and another quote me $1,900.00. The $1,600.00 dealer said it would cost another $700 to paint and install. The parts are a little cheaper on line from some of the gm part sites. One concern of the body shop was if the parts had any texture to them that the paint wouldn't hold.

They are $2,265. The website shows them the same color as the car. The dealer said his body shop charges $2,000 to paint them. He recommended I take them somewhere else?????

that kind of sucks, if i ordered it from GM i would expect it to be painted and on my car using the same paint thats on the rest of the car, not some color matched paint from who knows where. Just for the extra hassle you will have to go thru i would just cancel the gfx order, car looks better without it anyway.
And you can take that 2k and put it somewhere else.

Yes,They do need to be painted. And if you order your car with the ground effects as an "LPO" dealer installed option they arrive at the dealer usually a few days before the car does for dealer installation.

I paid 2600.00 painted and installed. In my opinion it was worth it.

I ordered the ground effects from Chevypartsplus.com and it is being delivered to my house tomorrow. I talked to my dealer about installation and was told about 400. I asked about painting and they had no idea. I called another dealer that I know has one in their showroom with one painted, they told me it was 870 to paint. Most dealers around here don't know anything about the ground effects because they have not ordered a Camaro with them. And he ones that have, just put them without painting them. I know a buddy that has a body shop that mostly does work on Corvettes and will take the ground effects to him and get a quote from him and a few dealers. My Camaro is going to look smoking hot with it on.

Sure does. Have them painted, you'll be glad you did.

That's WAY too much. They just don't want to deal with handling the job.

Push a little, shouldn't cost more than $500, probably less.
