Polished Wheels >>> Help !!!

HI Camaro Aficionados

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a new 2LT with RS.

The 20" polished wheel on the dealer cars are not matching up to the clean shinny ones pictured in the 2011 brochure ??

Are these clear coated ?
Can they be polished to a better finish ??
Are they a pain in the a$$ to keep up ???

Thanks for all your help.

u1-2go

ps ... My nine year old son (Chim Chim) wants to know how reliable the escape handle is in the trunk (LOL) ?

Are they a pain in the a$$ to keep up ??? Not too bad on the LT's, the SS is different story with the Brembo's
Hope this helps ...

There is really little difference in the polished wheels and the midnight silver RS wheels. GM really shouldn't call the "polished" wheels polished. When most folks think polished they think very bright almost chrome.

u1-2go, I have a 2LT/RS....and I have the polished wheels.
YES they are Clear Coated

IF you want the polished to a more mirror shine.....well you will have to have them STRIPED bare, then polished.....and at that point, you will either need to have them re-clear coated or clear powder coated....or continue to polish them by had FOREVER...which is a PIA.

They are easy to keep up....I LOVE MINE. since they are clear coated....clean adn treat them like any other part of the car that is painted.

For your SON....VERY RELIABLE....one of the guys in our club had his son go through the back numerous time at a show to get in and pop the trunk from the inside for people that was asking that very question....we refered to him as our own personal TRUNK MONKEY!

Here is my take on the wheels......I like the polished wheels if you are going to keep the wheels....they are clear coated and pairly easy to keep clean. If you want chrome wheels or a black chrome, i suggest that you just stick witht eh standard wheels and use US Wheel exchange to do an upgrade. Sadly, if you have the painted or the polished, it is the same price when you "trade". Why spend the extra 500 bucks to just give them away if you are going to upgrade?

I've seen the so-called "Polished" wheels. They look half-assed. I like the plain silver ones on my SS.

As stated, just be sure what you are looking at on the lot are polished and not the midnight silver ones...look at the window sticker to confirm. Midnight silver wheels looks just like the polished ones, except with a light coating of dirty brake dust sprayed on them!

If you have the polished wheels you can buff/sand out curb rash if you need to.

Exactly- I ordered my SS with the polished wheels but in just a few miles they looked dirty and just like the MS wheels. Now I have a set of factory chromed wheels and they just pop all the time, as brake dust doesn't stick to them. I love the look and now I don't have too clean my wheels every time I take my Camaro out.

Thanks everybody for the quick response.

I will probably go with the midnight silver.

The polished ones at the dealer are no were near close to the ones on page 16

Chroming down the road might be the best bet.

How does that work when you exchange for chrome ones ??

Thx

Soooo. The polished wheels aren't actually polished?

I bought some wheel cleaner made for polished wheels, I havnt used it yet but I'm guessing it would likely damage my wheels?

I stripped the clear off my "factory" polished wheels, then attempted to polish them more by hand. They look good, but they are a PIA. If you get the polished and strip them i recommend paying to have them fully polished then reclear coat them.
