New rear end-synthetic or not?

I am installing a new 9" rear end with a Moser Wavetrac posi unit. The break-in instructions say to use a non-synthetic oil. I called them to ask why and all they would say is that's what the gear manufacture says. They are Motive gears and I have not got a response from them. Is this just a no pay- no play type of thing or what.
