It's funny looking but city it gets 31-35 and highway 37-39 which isn't bad.
Hybrid for $19,000-$20,600 is pretty good especially when you have the Prius running $22,000-$28,000. Plus,it's her choice. She's the one that's going to be driving it.

This is sooooo true, it is her car, let her get the one she wants. She didn't make you choose something other than the camaro, why would you do that to her?

We drive big fat cars that we can't even see out of, but we overlook its shortcomings because of overall awesomeness. If she sees past the CRZ's shortcomings because its cute(or whatever) and it makes her happy, go for it.

CRZ is a great little car. I have driven them and they do have pretty good get up and go. It does have a fuel saving mode as well. I almost got one for myself, but decided on waiting until I see how taxes I need to pay tis year, lol. I have a 07 CRV and an 08 Fit and they have been really reliable. Just my 2 cents.

Have her definitely check out and drive the Genesis Coupe 2.0 turbo. My daughter just purchased hers (first car on her $) and this car is a great drive. Great mpg, extremely comfortable, smooth, good handling and decent power. No I don't work for any Hyundai Dealer! lol Just very impressed with the car. MSRP $24500. paid $21700 + tax/tag. I bet if she drives it the CRZ will be forgotten!

I actually almost got a CR-Z as my second car, but in Canada the Navigation option isn't available so I was going to wait for the 2012's... until I bought something else
(bought an E38 740i, so the whole hybrid thing kinda just went out the window)BUT The CR-Z is actually a hoot to drive (it does not in any way drive like any other hybrid, if you didn't know it was one, you'd never be able to tell. Honest.), I would definitely suggest you go to the dealership (without the wife ) so that you can take it for a drive without having to deal with two people selling you the car and see it first hand. Sport mode turns that thing into a little rocket. The 6 speed box is one slick gearbox too. Most of the reviews hate on it because it isn't really a sports car, or a hybrid, but I think that's what makes it neat, is that it is actually good middle ground. I was drawn to the dealer by its funky shape (didn't like it in pictures, wanted to see it in the flesh), but when I saw it it was just way too cool. The sales people will drool over your Camaro too haha, they did with mine! Check this out too http://www.crzforum.com/ , they all love their cars! (and a Cruze would be cool too if you can sell her on it!) |

CR-Z is a terrible car. There's a very good reason sales have never taken off since its launch.
Get a Cruze.

The CRZ has grown on me, but I would not buy one. There is hints that Honda may make a non Hybrid (possibly even turbo!) model. Dropping all the weight of the hybrid stuff by itself would turn it into a heck of a little gokart!

It might be helpful if you explained why she likes the CR-Z. You mentioned she is concerned about fuel economy and reliability, which is fine. But she could get an Insight or Prius which have better fuel economy and you can actually look into their reliability (something thats impossible to do on a new model). Not that I recommend either of those other hybrids, but something to think about when those are the only two concerns she listed.
I'd recommend a Sonic or a Fiesta. The lower cost will more or less balance the loss in fuel economy. And I bet they'll be just as 'zippy' as the CR-Z is, despite the fact they're not supposed to be all that quick. Could go with a Cruze, but I think its going to be too different from the others to be a serious contender. I'm guessing she wants 'fun and efficient' and the Cruze doesn't exactly fit the bill. Its a good car sure, but probably not the type she is looking for.
