Painted Aluminum + Acid etching = Doom?
As the title says, for those unlucky enough to have had an issue when cleaning their wheels both 5th and 4th gen that were painted cast aluminum, is there a proper way to really relieve the aluminum of the etching and is there any damage that could result from the etching?
IE structural integrity of the wheels? I say this because I'm considering taking my stock wheels off of my '00 T/A which would've be painted in a similar fashion to today's 20 inch painted rims. I'd then have them media blasted and powdercoated to preserve them. Would this be a wise investment since I plan to keep all the stock parts from the car to hand off to my children when the day comes way down the line. Just like the story set in Rush's Red Barchetta. So what advice do you wheel sages have? |
