I had issues before and after the swap. I gave up and traded it in. Not a good solutionmfor most but i was ready to roll it off a cliff.

Would consider buying a used one down the road if a t56/tr6060 swap looks viable.. Hptuners would be a other factor for me.

i got mine back from the dealership and they said they could not find the fault, so i went down there drove the car with the service manager and he flat out told i was driving the car too hard and that the transmission was not ment to be shifted past 6000 rpm Does anyone have any thing from GM that can either confirm or deny this?

i mentioned to the service manager why the redline then was at 7k instead of 6k and that how can the transmission not be able to handle it his response to me was to ask me if i would like the rev limiter reduced 1000rpm so that it would be 6k redline

2011 Mustang v6 6-speed ... FTW?

Nope.

GM or Ford, guess no one makes a reliable 6-speed for their v6's.

2011+ V6 Mustang Tech > 3rd gear grinds first thing on a morning
__________________

Hi,

I've seen various transmission problems on this forum for the 2011 V6 and mine has started to play up.

First thing on a morning, it will grind the gears when engaging into 3rd, just for the first time. After that, it's fine. It's just 3rd that does this, 1st and 2nd go in just fine, has anyone else experiencet this?

I have an automatic but just to make an educated guess I dont know whewre you live but if the trans oil is cold, that may ad to a shifting problem. although it could be a linkage adjustment or and internal problem like a cracked syncro. In any event take it to the dealer. Let him keep it overknight and road test it in the morning. If its just a one time thing, it wont be a real problem.

I'm in ontario, its not a temperature thing as it was 9c today. Will take it in.

im in richmond hill buddy. Mine does the same thing...only on cold starts

damn these 2011's are becoming problematic haha

Hi,

Did you take yours in or have you just put it down to the cold? It's only the first engagement to 3rd, and it didn't do it this morning so it seems intermittent.

What fluid is ford/you running in the tranny? I've always used GM synchromesh. Always worked the best even though people say you dont have to, I change my fluid every 25000 miles. But I'm a bit more rough on my cars than most.

I test drove a 2011 GT manual today and it ground 3rd gear the first time as well. It was pretty freaky and made the sales guy uneasy.

I just yelled "the clutch pedal is on the floor."

I'm guessing that the synchro is sticking to the gear cog thing after sitting in one place for a while.

Different fluid would probably fix the problem. Just get the dealer on-board with a different fluid or let them play with it for a while.

yeah i havent taken it in, just think its the cold and yes only happens for the first time i engage third. What dealer did you get yours at?

I've had my 2011 V6 MT82 since June, and noticed sporadic 'grabbing/ grinding' in 5th for a while. (PS..also have the vibration upon deceleration @ around 2,500 RPMs, which FORD says is "normal".) RE the grinding, the service tech confirmed and also noticed it in 3rd. They removed the tranny, overhauled and set up #3 and #5 blocking rings. They had the car for a week or so...haven't thoroughly tested it yet as weather has deteriorated here in the Northeast, but so far seems it better. Good luck!

I have experienced one grind into third and one grind into second. This was first thing in the cold also. I took mine in to the dealer, with my main complaint being my shift from first to second kinda hard like hitting or dragging something inside. After car warms up seems fine. They could not find anything wrong and said this was the characteristics of transmission. I have been shifting through my cars gears while I wait on it to warm up and that seems to help. Plus I have one of the pre-June 10th cars with the engine tick, still waiting on a resolution for that. I will be calling them on that this week.

GM synchromesh is way too light for the MT82. It will work in a TREMEC but not the MT82.

The problem with the trans is there isnt enough friction area for the syncros to do their job because the gear faces are too small. Check out google or wiki or something and have a look inside a gearbox and see how they actually work. The trans has failure designed into it. The only fix is to replace the gearset which is not cheap at all. I doubt GM will do that as their OE trans can hold the power of the engine and it will move the car. Its just not user friendly at all. And brass is not a good material to use on sycros as its very soft. You can almost nick it with your fingernail. lol. I cant believe GM did that. Not even a cobalt LS trans used brass syncros. Makes me wonder how crappy the rest of the car is designed if GM approved this one.
i'm with you!.why use "brass" in the syncros!..very soft, and easily "breakable
something "smells!" here!

I would write a letter to the OWNER of the dealership and then call corporate. One of them will put him back in his place. These guys are morons.

At dealership now. Was able to reproduce the issue for him on first run. He said its probably a synchronizer. I am going to request an inspection of the tranny
