right now, i would not recommend the mustang. i would recommend it definetely with the ecoboost and track pack but that needs to pan out. right now i recommend a 1SS. the no steering wheel controls are fine because it makes putting in an aftermarket unit easier, and the cloth works especially in the hot heat (leather sucks in the sun). the only thing that may suck is the ADM and wait time, plus first year bugs

Good luck swapping in a new radio. Looks like the ac and radio are built together.

Actually, you can get steering wheel controls with the connectivity package. Throw in PDIM and a USB in that package, and I think it's a wash.

Why is it, when the Camaro/Mustang comparisons begin on this site, the price quoted for whatever Mustang in question is always at the high end, while the price quoted for the Camaro is almost always the base MSRP?
If you want to see a real world comparison and not some fantasy-world pricing, let’s perform the following exercise. Here is the actual information from the window sticker on my 2007 Mustang GT500. I am using this as a comparison versus a Mustang GT because it represents the top-of-the-line Mustang. (When pricing on the 2010 GT500 comes out, I will gladly update the GT500 numbers, but for now, this is what I have). On the other side, I will use the pricing for a 2SS/RS Camaro, because that will be the top-of-the-line Camaro available in March. 2007 Shelby GT500 Mustang Base MSRP: $40,930.00 Included in this base price: Exterior *18x9.5 Bright machined Aluminum Wheels *GT500 Specific Badging *LeMan’s Hood Stripes and GT500 Side Striping *Aluminum Hood with Functional Air Extractors *Rear Decklid Spoiler *Fog Lamps *Rear Window Defroster Interior *Leather Sport Bucket Seats w/ Embossed Cobra Logo *6 speaker Audio system, AM/FM stereo with CD-ROM, MP3 playback, music navigator and Graphic Information Display, includes outside temperature display *Light-toned Cluster Gauges Including Boost Gauge *Power, 6-way adjustable driver’s seat Functional *SVT Tuned Suspension *14” Brembo Four-Piston Front Disc Brakes *11.8” Two-Piston Rear Disc Brakes *6-speed Tremec T6060 Manual Transmission *Dual Tuned Stainless Steel X-Pipe Exhaust System *Goodyear Supercar ZR Rated Performance Tires Front 255/45ZR18 Rear 285/40ZR18 Safety/Security *Driver and Passenger Side Front Airbags *Side Mounted Airbags Driver & Passenger Front Seats *Remote Keyless Entry *LATCH Child Safety System *24-Hour Roadside Assistance *Anti-Lock Brakes *Traction Control Warranty 3Yr/36,000 Bumper-to-Bumper 5Yr/60,000 Powertrain Optional Equipment *Sirius Satellite Radio………………………………………….$ 195.00 Incl 6 Mo Service *Navigation System…………………………………………..$1,995.00 *GT500 Premier Interior Trim Package…………………….$ 595.00 *Full “SHELBY” Vehicle Cover……………………………….$ 375.00 Gas Guzzler Tax………………………………………………. $1,300.00 Destination & Delivery………………………………………..$ 745.00 Total MSRP: $46,135 Now here, I have tried to build a Camaro with the same trim level and options as the GT500 above. 2010 Camaro 2SS Base MSRP: $33,430.00 Included in this base price: Exterior *SS Specific Badging * Fascias, front and rear body-color, SS-specific, with unique front grille and rear diffuser, lower extension, front air scoop and brake cooling slots *Fog Lamps * Defogger, rear-window electric * Mirrors, outside heated power-adjustable and driver-side auto-dimming, body-color Interior *Carpeted Front Floor Mats * Six-way power adjustable driver's seat * Four-pack gauges mounted on center console: oil pressure, battery voltage, oil temperature and transmission fluid temperature * Boston Acoustics premium 9-speaker system, 245 watts with AM/FM stereo with CD-ROM, MP3 playback, music navigator and Graphic Information Display * XM Radio w/ 3mo service *Steering-wheel-mounted audio controls *USB Port * Seats, heated driver and front passenger *Universal Home Remote, includes garage door opener, 3-channel programmable * Cargo convenience net Functional *14” Brembo Four-Piston Front Disc Brakes * Engine oil cooler *Transmission oil cooler *14.4” Brembo Four-Piston Rear Disc Brakes *6-speed Tremec T6060 Manual Transmission * Performance suspension * ZR Rated Performance Tires Front 245/45ZR20 Rear 275/40ZR20 Safety/Security *Air bags, dual-stage frontal, thorax side-impact for driver and front passenger and head-curtain side-impact for front and rear occupants *Remote Keyless Entry *LATCH Child Safety System * OnStar with one year of SI05 & Sound Plan *Anti-Lock Brakes *StabiliTrak stability control system with traction control *Daytime Running Lamps * Theft-deterrent system, PASSkey III Warranty 3Yr/36,000 Bumper-to-Bumper 5Yr/100,000 Powertrain Optional Equipment *RS Appearance Package……….……………..…..$1,200.00 HID Headlamps w/Halo Rings 20-Inch Midnight Silver Aluminum Wheels Rear Spoiler Unique Taillamps *Convenience and Connectivity Package………$ 465.00 (Manual Trans) Bluetooth for phone, personal cell phone connectivity to vehicle audio system *Stripe Package...………….………………….........…$ 470.00 *Inferno Orange Interior Accent Package….…….$ 500.00 *Full Vehicle Cover……………………………...……..$ 360.00 Gas Guzzler Tax…………………………………………$ ????? Destination & Delivery………………………………….$ 750.00 Total MSRP: $37,175 Folks, that’s an $8,960 dollar difference between the GT500 and a 2SS/RS. And what do you get for that extra money: *74 more horsepower *A hand-built, boost-ready, engine with forged internals *An engine capable of supporting 800+ RWHP without removing a valve cover *Forged 31-spline axles *Positive Traction differential with upgraded clutch plates *Twin-disc Clutch It might not beat it, but the Mustang GT is going to compete with the SS Camaro, for sure. i still think with the extra 8k you can get enough hp out of the camaro....and the camaro will probably turn better stock. We can bench race all day but I can wait a few more months to see the numbers. btw nice gt500, I always give props to american muscle.....even if it needs a SC to show it.OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO JK that car is mean. |

Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

Garage, I don't follow you're logic. You are saying that it doesn't make sense to compare things of a similar price? I suppose there are some who buy based on 'this is the absolute best that I could ever possibly get' but few people who are looking to buy the best actually comparison shop. They decide they want the best Mustang or best Camaro or best Challenger. For those who are interested in value they consider 'what will $XX XXX buy me?'. So, for $31 000 you can get a Mustang GT with track pack, or a 1SS Camaro or Challenger RT with a manual transmission. The best performance will come from the Camaro.
And if you're looking to update you're list, the top of the line Mustang for 2009 was the GT500KR. Shouldn't you be using that in place of your own 2007 GT500?

I was just pointing out that the gap between a GT500 and a similarly loaded 2SS is not as wide as what a lot of people are fond of pointing out. |

Are you Mad? You think the TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS between a top of the line SS vs.Top of the line GT500 is not significant??? Lets ignore that the SS will SPANK the GT500 around any real track in the world... lets focus on the TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. Do you have any idea what you could do with TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ??
