As for insurance and gas, I'm 24 years old with a clean record. I just went to the insurance company to pay my car insurance and got a quote for the new Camaro. The SS will run me about $100 a month while the LT will run me about $85 a month, that's just a $15 difference a month, less then $4 a week. I can spend an extra 5 mins a day at work and cover this extra cost. The SS gets roughly the same mpg as my '97 Z28 so there will be no difference for me but I figured that for me the LT would save me about $20 a month on gas.

Sit down and crunch some numbers and figure out the actual difference between the two. You'll be surprised how small of a difference it really is between the two cars and if you can't afford that difference then should you really be buying a new car atm?
You're insurance company allready had a quote for the Camaro? That's cool. I've been wondering what it would cost me. What company by the way. Ours went up by 140 dollars per month when we added Bonnies Lexus and we've both got clean records Mine being a CDL and both with ages 35 and 38. Geico.

State Farm has the Camaro in its system now. For mine it is 45.00 more a month for 7500 miles or less a year.

Actually I already have. I save about $10 a week at work by taking my lunch everyday instead of eating out lol.

Ok seriously, engine swaps are 1000000x harder these days than they were even 10 years ago. I'm talking about on new cars. Its not just the physical fitment, those 8 bolts to remove the engine cradle is the easiest part. Its getting every last part to work together. Theres computers, sensors, etc that all need to work together (and be replaced!). I have serious doubts 99% of us could pull it off in a driveway, and I bet even good shops would have to take their time with it. Aside from the cost prohibitive aspect of it. Aside from the fact you will still be missing the V8 tranny, suspension, and brakes.

Wait a few months buy a used V6 (they WILL be out there) this way you save yourself the off the lot depreciation, drive it, sell it, buy an SS.

I'm 18 with a clean record but I'm paying much much more than $100 with a civic. Partially because I'm 18 and because I live in a densely populated area.

I'm sure this sounds like a stupid question, but I am ignorant.
If its insurance and gas that is preventing you from getting the SS, are you sure that you can afford the V6?

Our point is that the insurance difference is not that much. I bought my current '97 Z28 when I was 19. Before that I had a '96 Camaro that was a plain Jane V6. My insurance went up a whopping $10 a month when I bought that car. If this really is your reason for not getting the SS then you need to sit down and figure out if you can even afford the V6.

If Scott reads this I'm sure he'll tell you..... no matter how much money you have, a V6 to V8 swap in the 5th gen Camaro will be IMPOSSIBLE.

The engines have different mounting hardware, and we aren't just talking engine mounts: the front subframe and unit body sub assemblies are engineered different for LS/LT and SS.

The ECMs are different. So are the main wire harnesses. Electronics are the big issue..... the intrumentation and calibration of everything is all interconnected and interengineered based on the engine/transmission combo it is built with at the factory.

Long gone are the days when a Saturday afternoon, a cherry pick, a couple of good friends, and a 12 pack of beer were all you needed to convert a V6 to a V8.

My parents will be fronting most of the cost of the car. Some of it will be a gift for graduation, the next couple of christmas' and birthdays. Most of it will be a loan which I will slowly pay off in the next couple of years. So, yes some of the issue is that extra $10 per month, which does add up, and much more gas money over the years. It uses premium fuel and is less fuel efficient than the V6.

fair enough, but i would look at trading it in instead of just doing a swap
