Ticking sound on SS
My L99 SS makes a ticking sound when I start it up every now and then.. I pointed this out to the service guys when i was at the dealer, and they said changing the oil would be the first course of action. They then proceeded to tell me that if it happens again, they would have to replace my lifters. Is this serious "surgery" that would be done on my car? Also, how long would they have to keep it? Thanks for the help..

There is a TSB on the lifter ticking on the L99,it does involve some engine " surgery".Is it doing it on every cold start?

My 2011 does the same thing but not always. Sorry to say but I've had three oil changes so far and it will not solve the problem. Most likely the lifters. And it is a big job.

If its under warranty have the dealer sort it out. Is the engine stock? Exhaust leaks can also make a ticking sound

Also would i need to put the stock intake back on to avoid any trouble from the dealer honoring this repair under warranty?

Can you pinpoint where the sound is coming from? Also did the ticking start soon after the catback install?
As for the dealer, I would toss my stocker back on there just to be safe. It really depends on the dealer. Some will be cool, others not so much.

i know its coming from near the engine somewhere, definitely not under where the exhaust or anything like that is. And i believe it was occurring before the catback install.

My 2011 LS3 car sometimes makes a ticking noise on the passenger side when the engine is at operating temperature. I never hear it on a cold start. My noise seems to be coming from under the car, near the engine. I'm not too worried about it since I don't hear it all the time. The lifters on your L99 are probably making the noise. I've seen multiple L99 lifter threads on this site. Search for the TSB.
