Breaking-In an Engine...What'm I missing?

I'm due to get my new C5 in a few days, and I've been reading up on the ''proper'' way to break in an engine. Unfortunately I've seen a ton of stuff aimed at both breaking it hard ala (http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm) or breaking it in softly... So anyone have any info here for my first 1k miles? What's the best POA?

Before anyone asks, i did a bunch of searching, and nothing seemed to pop up, or pop out around this topic... although I'm getting old, and may have missed something.

your gonna hear a lot of opinions, so its really up to you.
I got mine and drove it maybe like 300 miles like a standard car, then let loose and drove it like i was being chased by cops

so what ever you do, enjoy it!!

Break-In instructions are in the owners manual! That should be easiest for everyone.

I think break-in is over-rated.

I've seen it done every way possible, from drive it like you stole it from day one, to drive it like your driving Miss Daisy the way GM prefers.

Hasn't made any difference either way. Just get it, and enjoy it.

Some folks say this is the best way, but again this is only an opinion.

There is a lot more info in the Mechanical Maintenance: Break-in / Oil & Fluids / Servicing section.

Whatever you decide as long as you are comfortable with it then you are right with yourself.

The drag strip is like sniffing glue, it's cheap, it's a decent buzz, it doesn't last long and they are all the same.
Road racing is like China White Heroin, the buzz is stronger, the high lasts for hours, it's extremely addictive and they are all different.
I can't wait for my next
Track fix.

Some of GM's best kept secrets can be found in the Owners manual.

Just go easy on it for the first couple hundred miles and don't read too much into all of the hype around this. There are tons of opinions on this and people will clammor for days debating it. Just drive the thing normal for the first couple hundred miles and don't do any super hard acceleration for a while.

Here is what I do for break in:
1) Smooth on the brakes so they seat properly.
2) Drive normally with no hard acceleration.
3) Shift smoothly through all of the gears.
4) Fill with good 93 octane gas.
5) Vary the RPMs

I've read all the various threads too, and one of the few things the different methods have in common is to vary the RPMs. Do that, and drive however you want, you'll be fine. I just drove normally, and still do.

C5's have been out since 97, why would you need to break the engine in?
