On the subject of Test Drives
Well, all this flip-floping between engines on my Camaro has brought me to a recent conclusion last night (the loan thread also helped alot, and I thank those that responded). I may wait until the dealerships around town actually receive testable units in order to gauge my style with either the LT or SS trims.
I mean, I don't want to get hung up on the V6/8 argument until I see how the car drives. So this is why I ask what are the opinions on test driving cars without committing to a buy in the near future? |

Good choice (though tuff choice) if you need to be echonomical. Fortunately with me it will be "Can't go wrong with a SS". But I have to wait anyway. I'll be test driving an SS way in advance.
That is if they have SSs sitting on the lot in Oct or Nov.

As far as the OP... if you're really questioning the decision that deeply you'd be better off waiting so that you can have as much info as possible to make the most informed decision. Nothing stings worse than buyer's remorse (is that possible with the Camaro though? )

I fear I reluctantly hold out til Jan. and then it's "Convertable due out in 6 months" then I'm screwed. I would have to hold out even longer. But if the convert. won't sell until 2011 actuall year I'll be OK. If it's 2011 'Model Year' and comes out in July or something.

Oh heck yea, if you can find a dealer that has a ss and a lt, drive them both to figure out which one is best for you. May be a good wait on the ss at a dealer though. I'd venture to say if a dealer got in a non alloted ss, it would sold or spoken for the day it arrived. |

You just have to make sure that there are dealers who will be willing for you to test drive their SSs, not all dealerships let people test drive the v8s for some reason.
I tried to test drive a chally yesteday, but they said they couldnt, i cant remember if it was customer cars or aanother reason, i dont know, but they gave me the keys to itr and i revved it like crazy, that 5.7 is prtetty mean. |

Well I went and drove the G8 GT and figured handling would be close to the Camaro V6 and speed right between the two. It was a nice riding car and the Camaro will have less body roll so the Camaro will rock with V6 or V8.

After reading all the glowing reviews about the v6, it made my decision easy.

Thanks to all that replied.
My decision is actually hinging on remorse. The whole 'shoulda gone with an 8' is what's killing me. The only V8s I have ever driven were an anemic Durango SLT and 2 Chevy pickups. The latter of which had a 6.0L Vortec V8 with 300hp and some mad tq stock(2500HD). I actually loved that truck, but found that I hell of a lead foot and need to get further acquainted with that much power before I decide if I should put both feet through the door. This, coupled with the resultant costs have made me reconsider. So this is why I'm asking the dealers that frequent the board how I should go about testing an SS trim due to my fear of taking out someone's pre-order. I know how people are with fears of people test driving their 'baby' and railing on it. I would never want to do so or even try such a thing, so I hope to just take one off the lot that will later be sold, and also drive it under the supervision of a salesperson to quell their worries. I respect the Camaro, and I want those dealers to see this and at least on their terms get a feel for the car before I buy. |

I know that I want to get the V8, but I'm still going to test drive it. In fact, when it's time for me to buy the car, I will go to an import firm I've scoped out that has both Mustangs, Challengers and later this spring Camaros. And if I can I'll test drive all three, but at least a Camaro and a Mustang. I'm 99% sure I'll be getting a Camaro, but I still want to compare and see which is nicer to drive. It is after a bit of money for me to spend.
