It's not the weight that's killing the Camaro's time, it's the engines break-in torque management on the drive train that gm has on it's cars. The Camaro gets much better after anywhere from 1500-3000 miles on the odometer as an engine break-in safeguard to the drivetrain. I would like to see how many tenth's of a second the Camaro picks up after break-in on a long term test or with a car that's been broken in.

Another review bitching about the steering wheel and shift knob. They even said it was a "fatal flaw" in the Camaro. Really?

Hate to say it but the video dont lie. Mustang beat it in both races. Chevy will have to step it up again.

Step 2: (Attacks frequently center around the “fairness” of a comparo test and often take a personal bent. Here are a few common ones: “You’re on the take.” “Your magazine has an American/European/Japanese car bias. Probably all three.” “My Corvette(random example) shouldn’t be compared with anything—it’s in a league of its own.” “You’re stupid.”) Having the flaws where you touch constantly(steering wheel, shifter, etc.) is like having a wife with crusty withered lips(all the time) or having a deformed face(but looks good on the exterior or from afar, for she wears a very realistic looking mask). You may still love her, but that initial attraction was falsely conceded if she were to take off the mask on a first date, i.e. if you get a divorce and she dates someone else, per say(a hypothetical situation of course). See their point ? They aren't stupid just because they say something bad about the Camaro... try thinking from their point of view, instead of your biased point of view that you have of their point of view.

I personally LOVE the 10 & 2 notches for my thumbs on the camaro and I have not used a better steering wheel in a production car to date. As for the shifter the complain about... there is always the hurst shifter.... but I NEVER have seen that reviewed on a Camaro.

Anyone notice that the Camaro's tire selection handicaps it quite a bit? In order to keep the fender well gap appearance consistant across all models, the tire size is adjusted with each different type of (stock) rim to create a 28.7" overall tire diameter.
The 2010+ mustangs have a tire selection that gives them a 27.1" or 27.7" (depending on options) overall tire diameter. That means lighter weight, less rotational mass, better overall handling, and quicker acceleration. There's already an example of someone shaving .4 seconds off of their (V6 Camaro) 1/4 mile time by reducing their rear tire diameter to somewhere under 27" and keeping all other mods constant.

What kind of tire did they switch to? I find it hard to believe the same tire in a different diameter would make that much of a difference. However, switching to a much stickier tire would do the trick.

When I swapped out my factory 28" rear tires for 26" DR I was expecting huge gain's but there wasn't any. I was bummed out so I decided to stuff the wells with 28" DR's instead of having goofy 26" rear's. |

And I tired of dilweeds like you popping out of the wookwork to defend every weird and unlikely-seeming flaw a crappy reviewer can come up with to dis a car, just because they are dis-ing the Camaro. I don't recall steering wheel depth and shifter shape being listed in automobile specs, I've never seen car guys drooling over the steering wheel depth or the shifter shape, and I've never seen a chick get hot after looking at the car's steering wheel depth and shifter shape. That these guys say it's a fatal flaw, when it so obviously isn't, is hilarious. The 2010 Mustang had a fatal flaw, a massively underpowered engine compared to both the Camaro and Challenger. A spherical shifter knob with the sides flattened is not a fatal flaw. And it would be nice to read a comparison of the new Camaro convertible that had more to it than teen angst and a raging boner for the Mustang, don't you think? |
