Old Camaro ads confirm the "disrespect"?
I've seen all the hooplah about V6 dissing and the V6ers not getting any love, etc. While I don't belong to that group (I believe if it's a Camaro, it's all good), it appears since 1967, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Two parts to notice. When the kids jump in the convertible and drive off, you'll see the door color doesn't QUITE match up with the fenders/quarter panel. 2nd part near the end. When the guy finishes talking about the base Camaro (and maybe even that 327 vert), he says something like "Sometimes I envy them...BUT NOT WHEN I'M IN MY SS 350 Rally Sport!" To me, that almost sounds like a diss statement. But, the old car commercials are cool anyway.

I'm a V6 fan myself because I've owned a bunch of V6 Camaros, but let's be honest:
The whole idea behind a "muscle car" was taking the regular production version which usually had a meager V6 or maybe a barely-breathing V8 and dropping in a monster of an engine. The V6 has always been the affordable way to own the car. The Gen5 Camaro is doing pretty well in V6 form with 312hp -- that's more than the LS1 was rated for in the 4th Gen cars. But the V6 in those cars was only 200hp and also shared with other venerable 'everyday' cars like the Buick Lesabre. It was never meant to be a performance engine as it existed in the 4th gen cars. |

Also it looks like the 327 flags aren't quite level on the vert....good ol' old-timey GM quality control!!!

Actually he was correct, but that doesn't really matter. A 2002 Z28 with the LS1 was rated at 310 HP. But peak HP numbers don't tell the whole tale anyway.
Either one is fun as hell to drive.

My 68 Camaro had a 2-barrel carb on the 327, and was rated at 210 HP. When I was done with it it had about 400 HP. The thought of a V6 in a Camaro at that time never entered my mind. My 327 was the best I could afford, though I wanted the Z28, I had to incrementally work my way up to the Z's performance level.
