You are correct, also there were no V6 engines in 67. They were straight 6, 230 CI 140 hp ....

When I was a small boy in the late 50's and early 60's, the "car seat" was standing on the floor behind the front seat and holding onto the rubber encased chain that was strung across the backseat just below the top. Its purpose was to hang a blanket that rear seat passengers could throw over their legs on chilly days. No radio, no heat, no power brakes, no power steering, no automatic transmission and no stick shift; it was three on the tree...

We loved it!

That was right around time that gm had a strike. Hell you could get a 68 vette with a 421 pontiac motor.

Actually, it's right and wrong at the same time.

there was a 310HP LS1 -- Base V8
there was a 320HP LS1 -- SS
there was a 325HP LS1 -- WS6
there was a 345HP LS1 -- Firehawk

To borrow a line from Billy Joel:

"The good old days weren't always good, and tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems"

The reason people looked down on V6 engines back then is, well, lets face it, a V6 then had less power than most 4 cylinder engines NOW!

Modern technology has completely eliminated the stigma of smaller engines. Heck, there are some 4 cylinder engines that come out of the factory today without turbos that can run with many 1960s era V8 engines.

I remember back in the 50's as a kid you would lay up on the back shelf under the rear window or stand up on the front seat.
Nobody thought anything about it.

Yeh but dont be fooled, that old Camaro may have had 290hp but probably had at least 320ft lb of torque. Also give that old camaro 2011 tires and would probably walk away from the V6 Camaro.

Which is also right and wrong at the same time since they all had ~345 hp regardless of "ratings".

Personally i don't read it that way at all. I read it as he has envy of the "new young generation" But not when he is in his SS 350 RS not because his or he is "better" but because it makes him feel like part of the new young generation.

Why do i think this and see it that way? Because when i was 15 my first car was a 1973 Firebird. Coolest most fun car i ever had. My first drive in my 5th gen SS and it took me right back to that time. I can honestly say this car has shaved years off my mental life. Thank you GM and the Chevy team. That's the great thing about cars. They have the power to do that to us if you buy what you truly love and not just for function and practicality or affordability. God knows this car doesn't fit the bill on either of those points and i don't give a rats ass.
