When should be my 1st oil change? another ? also

okay so i came home today and i have 888 miles on my brand new camaro.. when shud my first oil change be?

also.. when i had to pull out of a parking lot with traffic continously coming from both sides.. i had to push my car a bit hard, not FULL throttle.. mayb almost 1/2 but when i made it to the lane and started driving normally.. the car started making a little whine when driving.. so at a red light i shut off the car and restarted it and it went away..

it also whined today in the morning so i restarted it and it went away.. whats causing this? im worried cus its a brand new 2011 camaro ss and it shudnt do this!

The whine is not normal. If it is doing it, take it to the dealer while it is doing the whine, do not restart the car.

Also, you'll get differing opinions about when to get your first oil change. But the car comes with an oil life monitor. You will technically be fine changing your oil when your car tells you to.

People will also tell you that there are metal shavings in your oil when you first get the car and to switch out the oil after 1000 miles or so, but it's up to you.

I changed mine at 9 miles. You'd be amazed how much gunk and metal was in the oil. Shavings left and right. The rear diff fluid needs to be changed at 1,500 too btw. Thats in the owners manual. Oil is a split topic. Some people say every 3,000 but some say go by the oil monitoring system.

All restarting the car is doing is masking what may be a bigger problem. The early morning whine may just be because it was cold. But with your other situation going on I would defintely get it checked out just to be safe.

Did my first oil change at 1500 miles. Service adviser, service manager and the tech looked at me like that was the dumbest thing they'd ever heard of. All said it was a waste of a free oil change, but I did it anyway.

ymmv.

Did my first oil change a few weeks ago. A little before 8000 miles. The oil life monitor was at 24%. Bought 8 qts. Mobile 1 and an AC Delco PF 48 filter from Wal-Mart for about $50. The dealer that I bought the car from wanted $100. They probably would have dented or scratched something in the process anyway. I do all my own oil and filter changes, I know they are done right. BTW: oil was not quite 1 qt. low at the time

Rear diff fluid change a 1500 miles. That's the first time I've heard that. Guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend!

Hello. FYI If you have a 3.6, make sure you do not go by the oil life monitoring system. My husbands partner at A G Auto has over 20 yrs G.M. training & they found with the 3.6 if you stay on top of it every 5,000 Km. you souldn't have any issues. With the 3.6 if the oil gets sludgy or thickens it will cause the timing chain tensioners to stiffen up & eventually stretch & break the chains. If anyones heard anything different , let us know.
Thanks Barb

Follow the factory oil life indicator. It knows best.

If you would sleep better at night with your first oil change at 1500 miles or 3000 miles or whatever then DO IT. After that you can follow the oil life indicator. That is what I have been doing.
