They stated weight reduction was a priority in the ZL1.

Looked like they have lightened it by almost 100lbs in the wheels to make up for the extra weight of the blower.

I have to say that even the manny 6 should not have a problem with the CTS-V sedan......the coupe is another question!

Performance wise, the ZL1 has the obvious edge. To start with, it has about an extra inch of rubber on all 4 corners giving it more grip. Based off of the weights of the V6's, it would also be reasonable to assume that it will weigh 150-200 lbs less than the CTS-V (perhaps more if GM has even more weight reduction up their sleeves). Power should be at least the same, but it could easily have up to 25 hp more than the CTS-V normally has, given the electric power steering, bimodal exhaust, and the better flow that the Camaro has over the CTS-V. Even if that 25 hp gain is a tad optimistic, I think an output of 570 hp should be very reasonable

So, you have more grip, less weight, and more power. Oh, and more aggressive gearing (3.73 vs 3.23). Add it up and the CTS-V would have no hope, the entire deck is stacked against it. Though for the extra $10,000-$15,000 you do get a nicer interior in the CTS-V

I posted this in another, similar thread in the Chevy Camaro vs .... section:

Based off of the weights of the V6's, it would also be reasonable to assume that it will weigh 150-200 lbs less than the CTS-V (perhaps more, depending on how much weight reduction GM can manage). Power should be at least the same, but it could easily have up to 25 hp more than the CTS-V normally has, given the electric power steering, bimodal exhaust, and the better flow that the Camaro has over the CTS-V. I was just gonna mention the 3.73's. That's the standard set too, wonder if they will have an optional lower set? I'd imagine not, that pig is already gonna suck down loads of gas.

Well... it should be lighter and regardless of what we have officially been told I would bet it is making slightly more power. Not to mention it has bigger meats on the back. We all know the counts for something.

In my latest (April 2011) GM High Tech Performance Magazine the 2011 CTS-V only managed 12.76 @ 114 mph.
GM High Tech said they had to leave the Traction Control on to get a decent run.

I know the car is capable of much faster times, but its interesting to say the least. Don't those cars run high 11s (stock) with the right driver?

25 lbs per wheel.

That can't be true. The stock wheels only weigh 32 lbs.

On top of waht DGthe3 is saying the ZL1 also has the engine cooling and break cooling functionality with it aswell, which should keep the motor from being heat soaked, and the breaks from fading for a very long time.. Also the ZL1 appears to have better aerodynamic and better downforce, which will aid the car on the track but planting it down.

CTS-V Gear

I read the specs on the Caddy and it shows a 4:15
rear gear, that may help a lot.

Yes, that would be like running a camaro ss at 13.5 at 106 (the ls3) and 13.7 at 100 for the l99. Vary silly, the cts v has run 11.9s stock, and 12.1s at 119 + are pretty much the norm.
