It is a STATE LAW....not up to the city or town.
Ok, thank you. The way he was explaining to me, it was more of city/town tax rather than a state tax.

I still don't get why he calls it taxachusetts and then says it has the same taxes as everyone else. I mean it's not like mass is taxed more than other states or something. He'd have the same problems going to other states. Some states might not have a certain tax, but they have to tax another way to make up for it. Like I know NH doesn't have a sales tax, but if you look at their property tax I believe, its pretty high to make up for no sales tax. I mean not even the cigarette tax is that great in Mass. It looks like it's about in middle compared to other states.

Everything is taxed....My personal favorite is when you actually file your taxes.
You must report your previous years state income tax return because it's
considered taxable income.

Yeah it sounds crazy that you over paid your taxes on income that was
already taxed only to be taxed again on what was returned because you
were over taxed lol.

I really don't want this to get political and shut down. But:

Massachusetts' per-capita state and local tax burden is fourth highest in the country, and 22.5 percent above the national average. This is determined by dividing our state and local taxes among every man, woman and child in the commonwealth, showing for comparison purposes, that each of us pays $5,419. The national average is $4,422.

Can you read? What I said was that we have every tax that the other 49 states have. Not every state has all of the taxes that we have. Fla has no income tax. We do. NH has no sales tax, we do. Now do you get it?

We also have a 6.25% sales tax that is imposed every time that a vehicle changes ownership. My 1SS will be my last new car because I am sick and tired of paying for the freeloaders in our system. I will keep the SS and replace my Buick with used cars that have depreciated. I quit smoking 13 years ago. It was NOT for any noble reason like my health, it was because of the loonie liberal's in my home state raising the taxes through the roof. I started this thread to blow off a little steam and to give other fed up taxed to death people a chance to vent. When I bought my SS in May of 2010, I had an 8 grand trade in for my 2002 SS so I paid over $1,600.00 in sales tax on the remaining $25,000.00.
n.h. has the same tax, only under a different name!..it's called "registration fee"..trust me it's the same as mass excise tax!..it's a local tax used by the city,or town levying it,and it is enforced legally by a state statute.

I was just in Mass. last October on a week-long vacation. I have driven in over 40 states, and I can say without a doubt that Massachusetts is the worst place I've ever driven. Only time I've ever been in a car and thought "gee..I'd actually rather be in Chicago during rush hour."

this IS true,AND these people "laugh" at the citizens who are financing these "gimmee" programs!..they think the people who pay are "suckers!"

My excise taxes on my vehicles this year:
2003 F-150 = 46.50
2007 Focus = 76.00
2008 Harley Electraglide = 67.00
1967 Camaro Convert. = 6.25
2010 Camaro = 346.00

And I was lucky.....Only paid 5% sales tax on the Camaro.....Took delivery just before they raised it to 6.25%
that state's a f**kin' toilet!..just sayin!

Well, in NY we rank #2 in tax burden! We have a $10,000,000,000 debt. We rank 50th for business tax climate. NY's gas tax is #2 also, behind CA at 65.6 cents/gallon. Our gas is $3.33 right now for unleaded. We all got it bad.:(

No matter what anyone says we are screwed...the system is so jerry rigged and riddled with crap that there is no hope for the low man on the workforce totem pole.

Sounds to me that paying taxes is part of being a good American and patriotic, and dare I say, Christian.
