All stock 2010 L99's?

How are they running in the 12's?

First off we've only seen a few stock L99s run high 12s with the fastest being 12.8.
It takes a combination of excellent track conditions, excellent weather conditions (cold, dry, high pressure - very low density altitude), and excellent driving.

Don't forget for every 1000 ft. of density altitude you can add or subract about 1.5 tenths from your time (or = 15hp).
So guys running in cold air at low elevation tracks have a huge advantage.

Ok, I am getting yelled at the last few days from my Dad. He said his car is the slowest one they made and something is wrong with the engine. I told him its what track the car is running and told him he does not know how to launch the car. He said you just push the gas down. What ever Im so sick of hearing it! He has had lots of different tunes and he says they are all junk and everything is a lie and he was sold a lemon on and on. Oh well. He just needs to stop taking it to the track or sell it back to the dealer then. He said it is only good to look at and runns like crap.

What does it run at the track? There have been issues with low octane tunes on the L99s. These cars run really slow. The fuse pull mod can fix this issue (search fuse pull mod). But if his car has been tuned and he runs high octane fuel, he shouldn't be having those issues.

Very interesting. I never ran my car stock, but it ran 12.9 @ 108 mph with just a tune (dynoed 330 rwhp, 338 lb ft.) at the time).
It definately makes a difference who tuned the car. A tuned L99 A6 should run easy low 13s in average conditions. In good conditions, its definately capable of running in the high 12s (12.8s - 12.9s).

He should get his car dynoed to see how its running. If he's had it tuned, then he should know what it dynoed. When I got my car tuned it was run on the dyno and then fine tuned on the street. The engine as well as the tranmission was tuned. A tune makes a big difference on the L99s if its done right.

Also, to launch. He need to hold the car on the line (brake stall) around 1000 rpms. Then to launch the car he needs to roll quickly into the gas.

Do you know his 60' times? A fast run is all about getting a fast 60' time. If you can't get a fast 60' time, your time will not be good. A decent 60' time is around 2.0 for a basically stock L99. A good 60' time for a stockish L99 is in the 1.9x range.

The car has Teds SCT tune, a air intake a spacer and gm pro mufflers, lowest was 13.20 at like 106.?? Erie pa track, Lucky drag city. It likes to stay at 105 106 mph. Ted said the fuel was taken care of with the tune. Dyno before a tune was 288 hp. 60fts are over 2.0 will have to get the slips to see but think around 2.2

The only 60ft that he had below 2.0 was 1.9198 @ 13.3849, 105.36 The lowest 1/4 he had was 13.20 not sure of the speed can not find that slip. But know the 60 would of been over 2.0

First off - by his very low dyno numbers his car most likely had a low octane tune issue. Most stock L99s dyno around 320 rwhp or so.

But as mentioned, the tune would have corrected that.

His times are not that bad at all. It all depends on the DA (density altitude) at the track the day he ran. As mentioned, cars run several tenths faster in cold dry air at sea level. A car running 13.3s in the summer (+2000 ft DA) could easily run 12.8s in the winter (-1000 ft. DA).

Using an online DA calculator I put in the track Lucky Drag City - PA and the date of 8-28-10 with a time of day at 4:22 PM. The 13.38 run would correct to 13.08 on that day and time. If the 13.2 was on the same day then it was most likely a 12.9 run. That is pretty good for just an intake and tune.

What were other similar cars running that day to compare to?

BTW, here is the calculator I used: http://www.dragtimes.com/da-density-...ect+ET+and+MPH

I ran a best of 13.02 @ 109mph, 1.94 60' at Atco in NJ in october, i only have catback flowmaster, K&N CAI, and JRE tune on stock tires, i was hoping for a 12.xx pass, but couldnt squeeze it out.

Here are some of my track times with corrected DA. The car got faster as the day went on and the temperature went up. Strange to say the least. The car is stock except the CAI.
