service ??

Ok I have a 2010 2ss camaro. When I bought the car, I was told it would have a lifetime bumper to bumper warranty if I had the service dept. do all my recommended service. This was on the sales list, window sticker, and my bank and lawyer all have this in writing.

Ok fast forward to the first service, they changed the oil, and replaced it with the new (they say new) Mobil 1 full synthetic. Now I have between 2700, and 3700 miles for this warranty stipulation to stay in effect, which is cool to me. However when I got the little sticker put on the windshield the mileage reads 8,400 miles before next service. Well if you add the 3700 and 3700 it sure is not 8400.

Today I get my onstar report and my oil life is 72% and recommended service is 13,xxx miles. WOW!

I figured the service dept. added more miles to the oil change interval because it is a full synthetic.......

I called the service dept, and asked them when I should get it changed and they said every 3,000 since that is what my warranty states. Well that is 98.00 each time, which is fine, because they check the tread depth of the tires, brake pad thickness, fill all fluids, check tire pressure, and everything in between.

My question is, who do I go with, mechanic, warranty suggestion, and I know not to trust my onstar of 13,000, but why change it so often if it is not even using half the alotted oil life. I am in need of advice.

Since your warranty says every 3000, then it would probably be best to follow it..

Huh??? You have a lifetime bumper to bumper warranty???? And it said so on the factory window sticker?? You must mean a dealer applied sticker. I'm sure you must have paid extra for that warranty, whether it be a seperate line item, or increased asking price of the car.

I would have gotten all that ironed out at the time of delivery.

GM states to use the OLM for recommended oil change intervals and depending on how hard you drive it, could be as much as 10k between oil changes. (I change mine every 5k)

You have to abide by the rules of the contract or you will void the warranty.
I would go back to the dealer and sit down with the owner or manager and have them spell out the stipulations for you. You need to know the rules of the contract.....only the dealer can tell you that.

Thanks.

Yes bumper to bumper. Dan Cummins Chevrolet in Paris, Kentucky. This is one of the reasons I bought from them. Unlimited mileage warranty. I would have gotten it ironed out but as I said, when they put in the synthetic they the service dept. upped the mileage between service intervals. Which has me puzzled. The girl I spoke to in the service dept, was clueless to my question. I am going to call back later today and talk to someone else.

First of all, the ONLY warranty the manufacturer supports is your 3yr/36k bumper-to-bumper warranty and the 5yr/100k powertrain warranty. GM supports nothing else, and you are required to adhere to the prescribed service intervals in the owners' manual.

You may have purchased an additional warranty; I don't know. Some of them are through GM as extended warranties (but are generally administered by 3rd party companies) and others can be purchased anywhere (a lot of companies offer them). Showing us the specific maintenance requirements as the warranty requires would be helpful

Your oil life monitor is not programmed by the dealer. It is a calculation of engine cycles (both time and RPM), and mileage. The oil change interval will vary depending on how and when you drive your car, and should be reset after each oil change (the dealer should do the reset for you). You can see as few as 3k between changes, or 15k. Really depends on your specific driving habits and conditions.

As I understand it: the 5 year power train warranty is a limited one with labor costs covered only no parts.

the mechanic or onstar has nothing to do with your warranty.if you are confused, iron it out with your dealer.lifetime warranty is great, but you really have to be careful that they don't try to screw you when the regular warranty runs out.

Ok, just talked to the owner of the dealership. I have between 2700 miles and 4700 miles between oil change intervals. They said try to keep it closer to 4700 miles to get the best out of each service. Yippy.

And no it is not a purchased extended warramty. It is covered by GM for the full car warranty, and after that they pick up the bumper to bumper warranty as long as there and my records show that I had all prevenative maintainence done by them at their dealer. Which is no big deal. They figure since they have a great service staff, then they can detect a problem quickly if it shows up. I asked if it cost anything, and the owner said no, because I will be paying for the service all along. High dollar items like motor, tranny will be a 500 deductable. As long as they do the rebuild.

cool, u got a nice deal then...like when you buy a new BMW for instance, free scheduled maintenance for 4 years.

I recently bought a 2011 GT500 and bought the extended bumper-bumper warranty to 6 years. Also bought the premium maintenance package up to 6 years. It includes brakes and clutch. Only thing I will worry about it gas and tires.

Sorry for the thread jack, but what is the meaning of "premium maintenance package up to 6 years. It includes brakes and clutch.".

Are you saying Ford will fix burnt out clutches if you buy this warranty, or just clutch adjustments?

Sounds like they are doing their own thing.

Kinda like a McDonalds that doesn't follow the corporate menu - lets put squash and papaya on the burgers today instead of ketchup and mustard like McDonalds want.

Kinda shady to put up a GM sign and then create your rules to the game. They've created their own oil change intervals, their own warranty terms, and require you to have your maintenance done there. The GM rep should stop in there and say - what the hell are you doing? Want that GM sign to stay out front, these are our products and service recommendations. If you want to do your own thing, open a Billy Bobs Used Cars store.
