We bought the opti and the water pump. Both are duralast, we bought the opti from autozone because it has a lifetime warenty...couldn't pass that up.

Next weekend we'll put it all back together...hopefully.

$400 frekin' dollars = water pump + opti (My wallet hurts)

duralast.... probably wont last. ac delco or delphi are the OEM versions which are the best you can get. but who knows. optis.... 60% of the time, they work every time.

LS1s take advantage of things learned from the LT1. its a more refined motor. and is a lot smoother when making power.

think of the S and the T in their names. the S is smooth thruout. the T is rough and edgey.

I prefer LT1s, but I do enjoy the LS1s for the technology that they incorporate

Yes, that makes sense...I definitely agree.

One thing I love about the LT1's is their sound. The roar at you, it's a sound that makes your hair stand up. One thing I've noticed is that the LS1's kind of pop when the idle, but although they don't rumble, they sound pretty "cool" when you're accelerating.

IMHO...

The LT1 is a good strong platform that can make good power and is a blast to drive.

That being said and having owned both I prefer the LS1 hands down.

Yes, and that is something everyone should keep in mind when dealing with cars in general.

One thing though I kinda wish they'd done in the 5th gen that I really like in the 4th, is the arodynamics the 4th gen has. The 5th gen is really big, but the design is really good.

But the upside is when the 5th gen comes out, the 4th gens are going to be selling for cheap.

I was looking at the forums on z28.com, and look at a quesiton I found, here.

I didn't know the LT1 Camaro had traction control? Was it for later LT1's? 'Cause I don't think mine has it. (1994 Z28).

Is traction control a good thing?

Howdy All,
Last weekend, me and my dad replaced the distributor cap and rotor. (I thought my dad bough the whole unit, but at the last minute he decided otherwise).

Anyway...it drives fine now...it used to ping when you would accelerate heavily, but now drives fine.



But MAN was that thing hard to get to. And you needed like 5 different tools in order to get the dang thing off.

well, to keep with changing safety standards and other things, the "raked" look went away. plus going back to the heritage of the car inspired a lot of its design. the lt1 aerodynamics are freaking crazy. I cant remember off hand, but the drag coefficient on the LT1s was like 23% or something super low like that. better than some corvettes.

94s didnt have tc. t/c came on 95+ camaros. (thankfully...lol)

yeah, opti changes are a bitch. did you replace the water pump as well while you were in there? jw.

I still woulda changed the whole thing as the contacts inside the opti can be corroded and not make a good connection even with the new rotor.

If I would ever be reluctant to buy a fifth gen (if I had the $$$ ), it would be about the aerodynamics. I'm just CRAZY about the fourth gen looks!! If I had that kind of $$$, I would be more interested in putting a bigger and beefier engine in it.

what it does (in a nutshell) is say you were on ice or a wet road and punched it. instead of spinning the tires, the traction control system would realize that your wheels are spinning faster than the car is moving (via the t/c sensors and the ABS sensors in each wheel) and it would basically cut the power to the motor, bypassing your gas pedal (which could be mashed to the floor for all the car cares) and it will allow the throttle to close so that you can "control your traction". I never liked it. I had a g/f with a 96 t-top Z28 that had t/c. and I would have to shut it off every time I got in the car. then she figured she would shut it off for me one day (not realizing I had already shut it off) and ended up turning it back on. I went to "play" and do a controlled spin and the motor cut back and I nearly wrecked the car. I dont want the car thinking for itself any more than it has to. the only part of the car I want it thinking for itself is the motor and trans (and only partially on the trans). but then again, I grew up driving Dukes of Hazzard style thru the woods in my 78 camaro and learned early on how to handle a car in a 'loss of traction'. not saying im a perfect driver, but I like to be in control of my car.
