Coupe visibility: whaaaaa! whaaaaa!

What amazes me about the whole visibility thing in the coupe is that any journalist who complains comes across as saying the car is undrivable. All of us on this forum know this is simply not true. After an hour of driving around, any apprehension (if you had any to begin with) starts to wear off. I think the timidness of backing up when you can only rely on mirrors and sensors scares some folks (not me), and that helps create the overall impression of poor outward visibility.

A road course probably presents issues. I know the A pillar is huge and blocks apex judgement, but it's something the majority of us never do, or if we do, are willing to forgive this flaw for the few times we take it to a track. A-pillars are a non-issue for straight line 1/8 and 1/4 stuff.

Is this the best car to review over the course of an hour or two? No way. Is it a great car to actually own, you betcha!

This car goes backwards? This is news to me.

J/K the op hit the nail square on the head, like any other car you have to adapt your driving (and backing up) style to that of the car you are driving. Sounds to me that anyone who complains is just not that good of a driver.

Exactly Cam...The people that complain probably aren't that good and probably don't even use their mirrors or give a quick look over their shoulders either. Heck, I adjust to whatever I drive. Using my mirrors, it isn't anything that I'm not used to, having had either a Camaro or Firebird/TA from the '70's, '80's, '90's '00's and now '10.

you notice it the first time you drive it but once you feel the rubber tearing the asphalt up it quickly goes away! i back it into a super tough parking space daily and have zero problems.

It's all crap. After you drive the car just a little bit you really get used to it. The ones who constantly complain also have no idea how to actually properly use mirrors. They think they should be looking at the rear end of their own car in them. DUH...

Most sports/muscle cars are going to have low profile and reduced visibility. I understand mentioning it in a review but they just harp on it and beat it to death. If visibility was so damn important to everyone, we would all still be driving these......

I drive an Avalanche at the moment and yet I still only rely on sensors and mirrors. I think I'll feel very at home in the Camaro

I've been driving mine almost a year now and I still stop at least three feet short when backing. I have almost as big a problem judging distance from the hood. Of course, the last thing I want to do is hit something...better safe than sorry.

The only visibility issue for me is that I become more visible to women (and envied by men)!!! And that's a very good thing...

Hell my 55 didnt even have a passenger mirror on it and I still backed it withing 1/2" of the garage wall each time i had the car out with no worries. I use the mirrors on my truck to back up a 20ft trailer, I think I can handle a 17ft car just fine
cant drive it, shouldnt own it
just my $.02

Visibility is fine. No pillbox here. Every single car in the world has different visibility. And you'd get used to each and every one provided you spent enough time inside.

I went from a Silverado to a Camaro. There sure as hell was a difference and a little bit of initial "shock" as far as getting used to it. But that's true for all vehicles. Been driving her for 5 months now and love it.
