Hey don't get me wrong I LOVE the ZL1 and if I had the money I'd be ponying up for one. My only arguement is that the car is not THAT much of a bargain when you factor in the choices available in the aftermarket for improving the the SS.
If you can get a classic car to clean up at the Optima Utimate Street Car Challange than I don't see how you can't with a car that has 40 years of technological advancements engineered into it. |

I guess I am in the minority. I had a ridiculous 5th Gen SS. The ZL1 starts the game at a higher level than the SS. When we are done with the tweaks on the ZL1 we expect to have a RIDICULOUS Camaro. We feel we can get two more seconds out of it at the Optima challenge putting us in the 1.48 range in a luxury performance coupe.

After reading many posts in this thread, I think once the price is announced in the 4th quarter of this year, there are going to be a lot of members sorely disappointed. I think the price is going to be on the very high end of the estimates. I hope I'm wrong because I'd love to have one but I'm not willing to empty my bank account on one. Please GM don't screw the pooch on this one!

What I think it comes down to is this, Where does GM wanna go with this ? Do they want to mop the floor with the GT500 or do they want to match it in price. I hope the Zl1 would having a starting msrp of 44,995, but really look more on the lines of 49,995-55,000
50 grand for CTS-V performance doesn't sound half bad to me, anything lower would be a double win. Either way , Love the Zl1

Also, keep in mind, the GM guys said that the car only shares 33% of it's components with the SS, everything else has been upgraded to one extent or another. In response to your last sentence. The cars at the Optima Challenge are merely shells of classic muscle cars. Everything underneath from the motors, to the suspension, to the brakes are brand new, top-of-the-line aftermarket technology. Each of those cars most likely costs upwards of $70K-$85K to build when it's all said and done, so I would hope they could beat mildly modified newer cars that retain many of the stock parts.

Now the GT500 is 52K and some change, not including destination. Apples to apples here folks. I would love for the ZL1 to come in under this price, have no idea if it will, but the comparison in price needs to be on similarly equipped vehicles. |

We do business with LPE. There are some AWESOME LPE SS Camaros on the road with all the goodies. When LPE gets thier first ZL1 I am reasonably confident they will have it running stronger than the SS. They do C6 Vettes, Z06 Vettes and ZL1 Vettes. |
