My 2011, pecks at start up and just attributed it to solid lifters.

My lifters don't tick at startup. They start ticking after the car gets warm. I have an appointment next week to have them looked at. Ticking is getting worse by the day. I have an SCT custom dyno tune :( The first thing my service advisor said is that they will run a diagnostic first. So I'm pretty much screwed on my warranty.

I had posted the start of another thread relative to black smoke on a cold start. I was also experiencing the lifter tapping issue. Car is a daily driver that lives in the driveway (cold climate) 2011 SS/RS L99 with 10,000 kms. Just got the car back from the dealer and they did the lifter swap but it was still smoking on cold start. Dealer discovered another reported issue ( no TSB though apparently ) regarding an updated Valve Rocker arm Cover - Left Side- part # 12570427 and PCV tube- part # 12617239. Perhaps this would explain why so many are installing Oil Catch cans ! These new parts are on order.

My dealer is already giving me a hard time about my custom dyno tune and having the lifters replaced under warranty. He said that GM is going to request a snapshot of my computer. I figured since my warranty is already out the window I might as well throw a cam in there.

Can someone tell me if the specs below will solve my lifter problem? All I wanted was a cam and they provided me with a whole laundry list of uprgades included with the cam package. It would be nice to know that I’m solving my lifter tapp problem by installing a cam.

2010+ Camaro SSX Upgrade

100-125HP Gains
Serialization
SSX/X Badge
DOD/VVT Delete kit

3 bolt camshaft install kit
2010 engine application
160 thermostat
4177 NKG TR6 Spark plugs
12557840 Camaro SS Crankshaft bolt
OEM replacement professional install LS3/L99

I have a feeling that's going to cost an arm and a leg.

You can order a DOD/VVT delete kit from ADM or Jannetty Racing. Then you can go with pretty much any of the aftermarket cams out there.
That's most likely what I'll do if I have to have the engine opened up for whatever reason. Going that route will cost thousands less than going through GM.

I already have the AFM tuned out but that did nothing to solve the lifter tap problem. The cam package is 3K out the door.

If you have a lifter problem, it's mechanical and can't be tuned out. The AFM lifters lose pressure and tap at start-up.

In the Spring, I intend to get a tune and a lifter replacement from Jannity.

Agreed, tuning won't help the lifters, but it's on the agenda- lifters working well or not.

I saw ur name and just had to....

I just took my Camaro in and got it back yesterday, they changed the radio LED control assembly, also I had them check for lifter noise, and they said it is normal and what I am hearing is the air pump warming up, totally normal.
