door ding :/
as many may know I got a 2SS in CGM yesterday. I brought the car home but didnt get to inspect it til today cuz it was raining... well today I noticed it has a small door ding on the passenger door. My uncle is the general sales manager at the dealer i bought it from so im fairly confident he'll take care of it. question is how long does it typically take for a dealer to fix this? i don't wanna lose my car for more than a few days :/

Depends if there is paint damage or not. If its a paintless dent repair then it shouldn't take more than an hour. Touch up paint probably a couple hours, and if you can convince them to repaint the entire door then you're looking at a couple days.

That paintless dent repair sends shivers down my spine. I wish I never watched it get done. They drill holes to get behind panels. They plug the holes up but still. I would prefer a repainted panel IMHO. But others may feel different.

I'm happy you have an inside connection at the dealer. Unseen body damage discovered after you leave the dealer is often difficult to mediate. Dealer position is usually a shrug since the damage may have happened after you had it. Blame the PDI idiot at the dealer for missing this.
Back in the day, cars were delivered to dealers in open rail cars. Kids along the tracks would chuck rocks at the new cars. This damage gave dealers fits until they figured out enclosed rail shipping is the way to go. |

that's why you never buy a car in the rain or at night !! I learned that from a very wise man !

^It started raining as soon as the car was delivered to the dealer, so I didn't get a proper look at the exterior. But I called the dealership and they said to go ahead and bring it in and they'd see what they could do.

That's not always the case, I've used it four times in the past 1.5 years and not one hole drilled. They only drill as a last resort ...

I had pdr from a hail storm and if they drilled holes for every dent it would have looked like swiss cheese!

Only when there is no other way to get to it. If it's on a door in a decent spot they simply remove the inside door panel. Place suction on the outside of the door and tap it out from the inside. No holes drilled at all. Now you get a ding close to the door on the rear quarters and you don't want any filler then yeah a hole will be drilled in the door jamb to get to it from the back side.

that is so true, my sister bought a Black 1988 Monte SS a while back and when we went to look at it, it was in the garage and it looked absolutely mint and about a week after she bought it I took some pictures of it in the sun and the passengers door was a completely different shade of black, definitely learned the hard way.

the ding is right on the convex line of the door... think it'll be easy?
