I wonder what rpm they are considering "top speed" in each gear.

Purely theoretical top speed projections using ratios and red line. No way your going to see some of those top speeds in sixth without a lot more horsepower and streamlining (unless your going down hill in a vacuum to wards the event horizon).

Got on a wheel speed calculator and the speeds shown are at around 6,250rpm. 4th at 7k with 4.10's would be 145.58 w/ stock tire size.

I have set of 4.10s new in box, never even opened, and I am seriously thinking about going 4.33 with my LS3.

So this is probably a big face palm moment for me but....is there anything needed to make the car run properly other than the ring and pinion and the install kit???....like no tune or anything needed?

I'll let others that truely know chime in here but I'm pretty sure you would need a tune to have the speedo adjusted properly. If you don't mind your speed being off then you would probably wouldn't have to tune it. Other than that I don't think anything else would be needed.
I will say that the rearend will have to come out to change the gears and you should go ahead and have the rearend bushings changed at the same time. Should be about $80 or so depending on which brand you go with but most of the cost to change them is getting the rearend down.

I am very picky about who I trust to do gear installs. The guy we have always used and initially had in mind wasn't interested in working that much. He is doing one of those gradual retirements. A new opportunity may have recently come up. If it works out we will be shouting it from the roof tops. |

There were a number of companies that I spoke with at the convention that I am surprised have not gotten their products to market yet. There is a lot of good stuff in the works, in many of the industry segments. |

Incorrect. Automatic transmission cars will need a tune. The shift tables are based on several things, one of them being speed. Changing your ring and pinion will throw off your shift points.

The A6 definitely benefits from a trans tune but I was under the impression we were discussing an M6.
