How much is the rear diff fluid change?

I just want to get an average on what people are paying for the first service. Thanks

Even if you use GM oil its less than $25.00 with the additive they say you don't need because its in the oil. easy to do yourself plus you get to know your car

so the answer, about 20.00 if you go with Royal Purple.

otherwise you are going to get raped by the dealership. its so easy.
Do you have any pics of where it is located? I would be interested in doing this myself! Thanks

Pull your baby into the garage so the rear tires just make it onto the concrete. The little lip from driveway to garage gives you enough height to get in there. The rear differential is the big ball looking thing square in the center of the rear axle.

Also search for this and you will find pics and such. Easy to do.

Thanks Everyone!

You should change it once after the car is broke in. It lets you get the metal shavings out.

The manual says to do the first after 1,500 miles. After this it will vary. The rule of thumb is A) for trucks that do a lot of towing every 20k miles, B) for passenger vehicles that live in mountainous or hilly areas every 35k miles, and C) for passenger vehicles that live in flat areas every 50k miles.

Its listed under "New Vehicle Break In". It lists do's and don'ts for the first 1,500 miles. The very last one is to replace the rear axle lubricant at the end of the break in period.

That's under the competitive driving hat though, which I am not sure applies to the OP.

People are saying it's smoother...

Personally, for my first Diff Fluid change, I'm going with the GM recommended. I might go into something else later on... Hearing Amsoil and Royal Purple are good oils for this.

My first engine oil change was with mobil1, but now I've gone to using Castrol Edge.
