waiting on parts to install

got the switch for the steering wheel from gm parts direct, the harness from Darth (appreciate the smooth transaction btw) and snagged a brand new PDIM purchased from the dealer off of ebay for an 80 dollar buyout from a poor guy that totalled his camaro. once all parts get here I will be in business

This and threads like it are awesome, thanks to everyone who contributed to these diy threads

Great post! My local dealership said it couldn't be done, after I already negotiated it in with the purchase of my 2011 1SS. Finally got them to do it after a month of persistence and details from this post. Thank you!! I now have Aux guages, PDIM, and steering wheel audio controls.

HA!!! I love know-it-all asshole dealers that say something "can't be done", when it's being done everywhere but, there and being done rather easily.

Ok Guy's I need help here I was told it will coast me see email:
After further review of the instructions provided, the labor charge would amount to $200.89. The cost of the parts is slightly off on the link provided. the following are the correct prices; switch - 92219336 - $49.44, and harness (auto w/paddle shift) - 92236307 - $52.46. That would bring the total parts & labor to $302.79, or $362.87 w/taxes.
The parts would need to be special ordered. Let me know if this is something you would like to have performed.

Do they try to screw me here or is this the normal price?

I have the parts available for (switch and harness) 65.54 plus 9.95 shipping which will save you a few bucks. Cant help with the labor unless you are local or would like to travel but it seams a bit on the high side. You can order the switch and harness here if you like or give me a call

if you can't do the labor yourself then be prepared to pay $99/hour for the labor. It should really only take them a half hour max to swap out the switch and replace the harness and that's if they're complete idiots. Programming the BCM is another 45 minutes so you're talking minimum of an hour and a half labor. They're trying to **** you on the parts though but, that's standard for a dealership. Never buy your parts there.

I installed the switch and the harness myself which is a piece of cake. If I can do it, you can do it. Just a matter of taking a small screw driver to the sides of the wheel just behind the airbag cover to release it and pop out the blank switch cap and putting in the new one and replacing the old harness with the new one. Its all plug and play and you can't mess that up and push the bag back into position. In fact the bag doesn't have to be removed, just be gentle with it. My dealer charged me $54 for the program I believe it was. I know it was less than $60 for sure. The prices I listed below I found on Chevypartsplus.com not taking anything away from anyone else, let me make that clear. Also the manual harness is slightly more than the auto.

$49.44 manual harness and auto harness is $34,95

Wow, just had the worst experience with my dealership. I had called before hand and explained about installing the steering wheel controls as well as a PDIM. I ask if they could update the BCM for me. Well I went in today to get it done. 2 1/2 hours later the service manager comes out and says it is impossible to reprogram the BCM. Then he told me both his tech tried and my car would accept any type of update. I explained to them how it said to do it on the PDIM instructions and what I found here. I even showed them copies where it can be a dealer install. I was then told what I was saying and showing them wasnt possible and isnt authorized by GM... I said fine and said I will go someplace else. In the end they tried to charge me $198 for the two hours they couldnt figure out what they were doing. I laughed at them and needless to say that bill isnt and wont be paid.

Ok..... sorry about the rant but I am extremely frustrated with the dealerships performance and customer relations. Not to mention thier lack of technical knowledge. I do have a question. Does anyone know a dealership near or around Lampasas Texas, where I can go and get this fixed. The closer the better but somewhere, so it all works right. Thank you.
