Mark,

The material you saw on the doors and dash is what all non-leather interior cars are supposed to have. The car you saw is supposed to look like this:

Happy Now?

Hey Mark,
Thanks for posting up about this!
Keep in mind that a stock C5 Z06 has a 0-60 time of about 4.1 sec (or a bit faster), a Camaro that takes at least 0.5 sec. longer to hit 60 will definitely not feel as "snappy"! As has been mentioned before, it's all about your frame of reference. Also, there's a greater level of inertia to deal with in 4000 lb car vs. a 3300 lb. car, when launching.
A couple of things I noticed after driving the V8 car last May in Milford was that it was was much smoother and a lot quieter than my lightly modded '98 SS. Without the more obvious sensory inputs that I'm used to experiencing in my car, the new Camaro came across as a more docile beast...
As well, it would probably be a very interesting race between a new SS and my '98 as performance #'s would seem to be pretty close. So after my experiencing the new car, my 1st thought was, "Geez, the acceleration feels a lot like my car feels - what's the big deal?" All the hype could have a tendency to artificially build one's expectations to an unrealistic level.
After driving the V6 car, I actually came away much more impressed... simply because that car performed W-A-Y-Y above how I'd expected it to - and - it was obviously a much slower car than the V8 I'd just driven!
Just gotta keep things in a proper perspective.

Best regardSS,

Elie

Thanks Hylton.

No, I didn't think about the ambient lighting until the car was gone. Sorry about that.

Elie, thanks for the level headed response. I'm not sure why everyone is getting their knickers in a knot over a simple comment about how the car felt. I certainly didn't expect the car to feel like my Z06 or any of the '67 Z-28's that I have owned I was just trying to offer some sort of comparrison for those who might not have driven the car. I will say that I did expect it to be "snappier" than it is, but I wouldn't say that I was disappointed. The car is very civilized and could be driven every day with no problems at all - even on a long trip. I can't say the same for my Z06...

I've got to wonder, was it a bone stock Z06? It is my impression that the vast majority of these type performace cars are modded/tuned pretty quickly.

how would you compare it to the GTO?

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

Hopefully the shorter gears rumored to be available for MY2011 will help with the remediation of this issue (giving a more snappy feel). I'm ordering a 2011 so I have my fingers crossed (also for ABL and HUD)

I hope you guys don't think this car defies physics. The SS is awesome. It met every expectation I had. And my expectation was based on driving a whole list of cars with a 400+ HP 6.0 and 6.2 L V8 over the years. And those expectations are VERY high. But, it is not a Corvette. With the same motor as the Vette and and extra 400 pounds or so it can't be. This has been my biggest fear reading many of the posts on Camaro5, that some of you will have unrealistic expectations and hense be disappointed.

Yes, I am half expecting to see a post after the first magazine tests that says the Camaro fails because it won't do 0 - 60 in under 4 seconds.

But for those of you with realistic expectations, you will be very satisfied.

So we now have you on record as saying that, in fact, the SS will be slow? I mean 426 hp = under 4 seconds by anyone's definition. Look at certain Nissan also with launch control as proof of my assertion.

I'm canceling my order now. Thank you for your info.

With a history of only driving sub-200hp cars, I think I'll be very much satisfied.
