Is The Hurst Short Shifter Worth The Money?

I finally sat in a SS that had the short throw Hurst shifter. Now I didn't drive this car but I am thinking it isn't worth the almost $500 to purchase it.

Your thoughts on this please.

I paid less then 300 for mine, from apex motorsports. Although it was during the holidays and they had a great deal.

Edit: heck, it's only $309 through them right now...

Take a look at the MGW, for a little more you get the whole assembly not just a new handle. I shopped around and decided that it was the best bang for the buck. Had to get a hurst pistol grip with 12v switch though as they don't make one. Also, its supposed to shift easier/smoother which is better for the honey, +1 for me!

You get more then just a handle when you get the hurst...

Factory (KAE) or aftermarket Hurst?

For $380, I'm glad I got the factory option.

Not much. All I'm saying is compare the two, you get much more with the MGW for not much more $.

he;s probably reffering to the factory Hurst shifter?. If not, then get the aftermarket one online for $300!

I have the barton short throw. I really like the look of it over the hurst. I'm installing it this weekend so I'll see how I actually like it in the car, however, for every bit of quality of the hurst (and than some) the barton seems like a good deal at $200 and some change

I have the Hurst. If I were to do it over again I would do the MGW. The Hurst has a nice look and popular name but is very notchy compared to my brothers MGW. You cant even compare the two. You get way more from the MGW... not just a stem with a classic knob. I know Hurst lovers will argue, but remember I have the Hurst and am just being honest. If you drive two cars back to back one with the Hurst and the other with the MGW you will be sold. To the original question, no I don't think it is worth the money.

The Hurst aftermarket shifter doesn't just replace the stick. It replaces the whole pivot bearing. The Hurst uses a high quality maintenance-free Teflon lined spherical bearing to do the main pivoting while shifting. This is the "business" part (fulcrum) of the whole shifter and it is properly raised in the OEM housing to achieve a short throw. There are very few companies making shifters out there that take this approach. And the smart ones copy Hurst.
