On the radar:
Cruze LTZ/RS, ATS (new small Caddy), Focus 5 door, Fit, Golf TDI (Rabbit), Audi A3 TDI, considered a CRZ but need the back seat, or anything else that comes out between now and then for $25,000 or so and good on gas.
There should be a diesel Cruze option by that point as well. I imagine it will get very good mileage.

Well, if your going to buy are car you should take care of it regardless of what it is. Neglecting a car, especially maintenance, will just put you at square one again. I'd get one of the Monte Carlo SS's, I've seen several for sale. If you want a car with a 3800 why not get one supercharged and have a little fun.

What, no Verano Turbo? No 250 HP 2.0T for you.

What I meant is something that can get scratched or dented with me not flipping an absolute **** over it.

Monte Carlos are on the radar. I do have two Bonnevilles currently lined up though, one in Cincinnati and the other in Pataskala.

I love the gas mileage on the Camaro- 22 MPG? Thats the best I've ever had on a car... I'm averaging 18.5 according to the computer.

You know what gets me? When you have to swipe your CC TWICE because the max per purchase is $75... Dang 40 gallon tanks...

My truck gets 8-10 MPG. My old car got about 11 or so. My old truck got about 8 on a good day. 18-20 is a GODSEND.

With that being said, I'm jumping on the bandwagon looking for a better gas mileage car. Almost bought a new smart car the other day. (Yes I have a 400 HP 4x4 truck, the Camaro SS, and then my third car may be a smart car...) but I decided since I have a feeling I'm going to like AutoX, I might as well buy a fuel efficient car thats also good at autox, like A CRX or something. If anyone has any type manual 4 cyl for sale, must get over 28 MPG, over 100k miles, if it's riced out thats even better, PM me! No price range in mind yet, but I don't want to spend more than I have to!

Also been test driving the Ford Fiesta, but I might just go buy like an 88 prelude or crx and call it a day.

You want to rock the auto-x look for these:

gen 1 miata, preferably the 1.8 over the 1.6. If you can find one without power steering, even better bc on the track the ps pump heats up and fails and really screws you in the turns... I had one and it happened. Great on gas, a little gay but hey... its a convertible.

gen 1 rx-7... not so good on gas

porsche (VW) 924/944... plenty of cheap examples out there.

The smaller cars tear it up. I used to auto-x a 91 Miata and then a C5 Corvette. The C5 was fast around the cones but nothing like the Miata.

I'm probably headed down on Sunday in two weeks so I will likely see you there. Not sure if I am running or not. My tires are already toast so i won't do too good.

I don't think the miatas work so well for me (something about being 6'9" that doesnt bode well for the miatas). I haven't sat in a gen 1, just the newer ones, so I might give it a shot anyway (who would have known I fit great in a smart car, a fiesta, a CRX, etc?)

I thought about the porsche 944s. I have a friend that races them. They are also a dime a dozen.

I don't know if I want to have a great autoX car though, because then I'm going to spend money on it and try to win. I'd rather just have something that I can buy cheaper tires for, race against myself, and have some fun with, while saving some gas occaisonally. I'm still torn what direction I want to go ultimately in racing- ProStock, Drag, AutoX, Track, Karts, Rally.... Every one of those ultimately involves spending a lot of money, and having a car that you can't drive on the street / gets terrible gas mileage. AutoX is the only one I can atleast mentally justify having some added short term benefits, although I'm perfectly aware that it utilizes marginal rationality at best.

A mid 80's 944 may be a good bet though. I completely forgot about the porsche's, so thanks a lot for mentioning them!!!

Anyone else do any other sort of racing in South or central Ohio? Last year I went to a few ProStock events, and priced out entry in to PS, and karts. I've always done drag. Haven't found any dirt or other tracks in mid/south OH, just the karts down on the East side of Cinci, the ProStock in Lawrenceburg, IN, Drag at TriState and Edgewater, and track at Mid Ohio.

Don't expect me to win any trophies on the 27th - just going to have some fun. Hope to see you there.

I'd love to make it to Mod Day, its 3 days after my Birthday so I could get myself a special treat

I made the mistake of going to a small car meet in fairfield this Saturday and it was nothing but imports except for one well built F-Body TA. Gotta hand it to them, some of the imports were actually nice like a white turbo integra putting down 500+whp The rest were just rice though
