Windows tinted-scratch-need recommendation

Hi everyone, I recently had my windows tinted by a local tint shop here in the Northerne Viginina area. As I was leaving the shop I noticed a scratch on my passengers door panel. I immediately turned around and headed back to the shop and spoke with the manager. The manager was extremely nice and immediately took responsibility for the scratch and said he would make it right either replacing the panel or having a local upholstery shop fix it. Please keep in mind that the scratch is approximately an inch long on a fairly new Camaro that has less than 350 miles on it.

The manager recommended taking my car to an upholstery shop where he has done business before and he would take care of the bill. Well after speaking with the upholstery manager he said he could fix the scratch, but he wouldnt be able to match the grain on the panel. Plus the cost to repair the panel would be expensive.

Second option was to purchase a new door panel and after speaking with the parts department the door panel was anywhere from 350.00 to 487.00 for the panel and approximately $178.00 dollars to have them install it.

I paid $200.00 dollars for the tint job and the repair or replacement would be more than that. The manager asked me if we could work out a deal for the scratch, but I don't know what would be fair to ask for. What do you guys and gals think? Any input would greatly be appreciated. Martin

The shop should have liability insurance.

Don't settle for less than you had when you brought the car in, get it fixed right.

replace the panel... final answer. Cost is no object.

My wife took the car in for an oil change and the shut the hood with something under the hood. Dented the hood real good. They fixed it no questions asked and we didnt "work out a deal"... the deal was a repaired and repainted hood. Sometime the repair costs more....

$178 to install it? Geez, it takes all of about 5 minutes to remove and install a door panel. I've done it repeatedly when I was putting in my new inserts and ambient lighting.

The panels can be bought from GMPartsDirect.com for $223-$254, depending on color and side.

ask them for the replacement pannel, and work out the deal to install it yourself so that it doesnt cost the extra 178. That sounds like a deal to me
