and 6X9's are woofers, but not sub woofers. Tweeters, Midrange, woofers, sub-woofer is the progression (as I understand it) The factory 6x9's don't do a bad job of producing bass, But yes you do need a Sub in order to get really low and hard bass... That all being said again this issues arose after installing a sub, and no matter how much bass you remove from the factory 6x9's it still rattles because of the "Real Subwoofer" So your solution would not work in this case. Cheers

This is what I am planning to do, I am headed to home depot to price some aluminum angle to attach along the side of the speakers to stiffen the surrounding metal to hopefully eliminate the rattle.

@Summoner-
I too have a sub and have not ran into the issue described. From what I could tell of the OP's video it sounded like he was playing rap which is notorious for the bass and more geared toward a sub woofer. I am curious as to what the volume is set at for both you and the OP as well as the bass setting on the HU? I have my amp at about half on the remote knob. Volume on the HU stays about 15-20 and my bass on the HU is set at -6 I think. Cheers K |

I never noticed the rattle until I started driving with the windows up this winter. All through the summer I drove with my windows down or cracked, and never heard it until now. I have my bass knob turned way down and still get it. With all types of music, and yes Hip-Hop, R&B, Rap etc. causes it more due to the type of bass they produce, but it happens at other times as well. I noticed it even when my bass was turned down on the HU to about 3 or 4, it still rattled like mad. I run my volume at around 20 as well 18-25 depending on my mood. I am about to take a drive now I will test that and report back. When did you get your car? I wonder if you lack the rattle due to a design change on the rear deck?

Interesting. I drive with windows up/down and dont notice a rattle. I listen about the same as you.
Before I install my sound dampening and woofer I had just the stock BA system and I ran my levels at +8 at one time on the HU for bass with the fader at 6 to the rear and no rattle either so I was feeding it more bass. My car was produced 01/10 if that helps? Cheers K |

Humm Jan 10 is still fairly early... only way to know would be to look underneath. Unless someone here was made after that and has the issue.

I checked today and my Bass was at 6 when I shot that video, and speaker volume was around 20 when I shot the video... That is honestly not that extreme.
I can play heavy metal songs, with a lot of bass, or just standard rock and r&b with rattling at times. Everything in my car at the moment is completely STOCK. I am putting in a amp/sub combo in the next week or so. Yes, this will help, and I can lower the bass level/settings in the head unit, and the rattle should go away. It still sucks for some of us that there is a rattle in the first place. Between the rattle (at times), and problems with my PDIM acting retarded, I wanna just rip all the crap out. Although they are fairly decent speakers, they aren't made to handle but so much. |

This is very interesting, especially Aus10bmx, I had pretty much those settings before I put my sub and amp in without any issue. Very strange. You dont have the BA system do you?
As for Summoner, this is very odd as well. Ps to add, you dont suppose the speakers could be loose? Seems in the video when Aus hold straight down the rattle stops even tho flexation in the surrounding metal is still there. I think the speakers are mounted by two tabs and a screw. Thoughts? Cheers K |

Yes, they do, and for whatever reason this one either got by, or has just popped up. Until people take them into the dealership and ask for a fix, the product designers do not know to fix the issue.

I know this is an old thread, but this bugs the heck out of me! I had subs in my old truck, but I am trying not to add any to the Camaro, but the stock rattle is so annoying even at moderate volume. Anybody fix this specific issue yet? I think my rattling is coming from the same place as the OP, not the trunk lid itself.

I just bit the bullet and fixed my rattle. The exact rattle the op has. The problem stems from the extremely lame rear speaker mounting system GM came up with. Basically one side of the speaker fits into a groove cut out of the metal and on the opposite side one screw holds the whole assembly secure...or what GM considers secure. So basically the only fix, and trust me i researched the hell out of this, is to pull out the rear interior to gain access to the rear deck, and by rear interior i mean all of it! Once you get to the rear speakers, remove them, lay a layer of dynamat or other sound deadener under where the speaker contacts the metal deck and wrap the excess around to the underside of the deck. With no metal on metal, or even plastic on metal contact ther is absolutely nooooo rattle! Trust me it's a royal pita but 1000% worth it. Just take your time removing the interior as it is mostly plastic clips that hold all the panels in. Make sure you remember that the rear deck comes out last after all other interior trim pieces in the rear of the car (and the rocker panels) are out.

I used sound deadner and could get rid of it. They speaker was still lose. I could grab it I wiggle it ALOT. I stuffed a couple of 1" square pieces between the metal and plastic clip and that solved it . Just used a Los shoe box.
