Back when I had the SRT-4, I used to always whine when I raced rwd cars from a stop - I made it seem like it was their fault for having RWD, lol. But then I figured out how to launch decent and hope I could play the "reel them in" game..I digress..

Now, to bring this full circle, I think what annoys me (while at the same time affirming people's statements) is that BOTH the Camaro and GT500 will be close OR OVER 600HP and (up to this point) we're all in agreement that the GT-R gets both of them in a line and around a track.

Yes, that super slick AWD system on the GTR is great for it, but I would like to think they can do something in the Camaro and Mustang to compete.

I mean, yes, having 600+ hp is awesome, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, but both pony cars are only competing for bragging rights only against each other...

I love the GTR, but dang-it, I want an American car to beat it :flag2:
it doesnt help that a lot of people try to play by rules they foxhole themselves in IE "yeah but i do it N/A" or "yeah but i have less cylinders" or whatever the rule they want to limit themselves with. AWD isnt the end of the world though, i thought i read that the Boss beat the GTR around Laguna Seca? not sure how true that is though

What car can you buy today with 600 hp (whp or otherwise) for less than $60,000?
a few years ago that number was probably 415hp.

anyways The GT500 was always a small upgrade away from 600hp when it was selling for low 40k. i bet you anything the GT500 will easily beat the 60k/600hp barrier. the numbers pill worked out already state that it might possibly cost LESS engine-wise to do it.

Just slap on a pair of stickies and the GT500 and ZL1 should be able to beat the GT-R. There is a stock powered 2011 GT500 with stickies that already beat the 2012 GT-R's 11.2@122

Certifiable.

I completely agree with this. But - going by your numbers, if $60K is the base, you'd be talking about nearly $70K for this car, similarly equipped.

My whole point is, is it worth it? Is the value there? I truly believe the value is there for the Boss and GT, and the 500. But what if the performance isn't? Are you die hard enough to look past that? Okay - so you have more power; what if there's no appreciable increase in handling performance?

$150K for the GT was a GREAT value compared to what was out there. I think Z06 was a better value, considering it's performance, however, I don't consider it a supercar, like I do the GT. Regardless - I believe the money for the GT was completely justified by it's performance.
What reason do you have to assume it won't be worth the 60k? If it DOES base for 60k, I would bet it will come standard with the electronics package, the recaros, some suspension tweaking (possibly adjustable coilovers like the boss?) etc. Why would this car be any different than every other model 2011+ mustang, which are fantastic values? I really just don't understand why you guys are assuming that the 60k figure is set in stone, but the 620hp figure isn't and that for some reason if it bumps to 60k, they're just going to do that with no real upgrades. If the price does move to 60k, I can almost guarantee it will be a much better overall car. What reason do we have to think it won't be

Point is, "what ifs" are great and all, but it seems a few people here only want to talk the "what ifs" that show the next gt500 in a negative light. Taking all the positive out of the article and just assuming the negative is true is not going to make it reality.

Why are we even comparing the GTR to the Camaro and Mustang at all?

because some dude recently brought that up on this thread. Its pretty valid though with how much some of these cars are costing and performing these days.

Yeah but the GTR can only run that best quarter mile time once....then it needs a new $30K transmission

Price wise their not similar. The GTR is triple the cost of a GT or SS. And it's almost double that of the GT500 and ZL1. We all know that these cars were not intended to be super cars like the GTR and the ZR1. Why even compare economy muscle cars to bank breaking super cars? That just seems like a dumb argument.

hey im not the one who brought up the GTR.im just shootin the shit. But you have to admit, if these cars are approaching 60large ones then the GTR isnt toooo far off. I think it would be fairer to compare it to one than comparing a 100,000 dollar Z07 to a GT500 (like a recent mag did) or comparing a GTR to a $130,000 dollar ZR1 (even though its still competitive). just sayin....

If the Coyote/Getrag combo is $10,000 dollars cheaper than the 5.4/Tremec, there will be alot of additional improvements done to reach $60k.

60x2 = 120 . GTR is not 120k

When you have a car worth 60k, makes 600+hp and weighs less, you would think it should be able to perform as well as a car with only 480 (now 530) hp, a higher drag coefficient, back seats, a larger trunk, and a heavy 10 speaker sound system.

I dont think many GT500 or future ZL1 owners would consider their purchase an economy muscle car. However I think you misinterpreted my comment about the SS and GT as comparing them to the GTR. I'm comparing the soon to be released ZL1 and 2013 GT500 to the GTR.

Since when is the GTR a supercar? You would rank it up with Ferrari's and such?

But this topic is already showing fruits of labor because we can see that a stock GT500 would take the new GTR in a straight line with the addition of stickys out back. So apparently an economy muscle car can beat a bank breaking super car...
