tow truck ride again
just now had the wrecker service pick up my car to haul to the dealer. leaky transmission lines. not just a drip either.
i had just got home from the bank and could smell what seemed to be gear oil. so i lay down in the driveway and see fluid completely covering the undercarriage! it started at the cooler lines by the radiator all the way to the rear valance! i couldnt pinpoint the starting point until i jacked up the car,put it on jackstands and started the engine. thats when i could see a large stream coming out of the connection where the metal line is crimped onto the rubber hose. after further inspection the line looked bent and the routing looked awkward. im thinking when my car was involded in a front end collision last year this "bent" hose was not replaced and has now caused a failure. i will be talking with the dealership tomorrow morning to find out they will handle it. |

Did you have a chance to look at your transmission oil temp. You might not have had enough oil in it to get a reading.

Hey I got a question. Someone ask me the other day how to tow one of these things? Or how to even get the SS on a flat bed without damaging the front end. How did they do this?
Thanks |

temp was almost 180. when i back tracked the drive in my truck, the trip odometer measured 2.5 miles from where i first could see the fluid trail in the road until i got to my driveway.

even putting it on backwards the nose of the car still gets to close to the ground. the bed is at a slope therefore as the car is being winched up, the front of the car gets lower the farther up the flatbed it goes.

I had a car leak Tranny fluid at the Crimped connectin between the rubber hose and steel line into the radiator cooler. It was a $8 fix. Used a pipe cutter to cut the metal pipe. Then attached a longer hose to account for the shorter pipe. Double clamped the hose around the pipe. Drove it for two years that way with no leak. It was leaking at the compression fitting.

Obviously if the car is under warranty, I would have it fixed proper. This particular line is a low pressure line, it really didn't have too much risk attached to it with my jimmy rigged fix.

The biggest problem with pulling them onto a deck is there are very few options for hooking on the bridle that attaches to the winch line. Using the strap type bridle vs. the chain bridle, lessens the chance of paint damage underneath the front fascia. If the deck driver is caring enough, there will be no damage to the underside of the fascia when he/she is done. Deck truck operators do not like to winch a vehicle onto the deck backwards unless there is no other option. They want the heavy part of the vehicle facing the front of the deck. |
