referring to your 'other statement' here... how do you propose to do that... short of buying it through the parts counter or a salvage yard?

I always stalled in reverse. Something in my brain didn't want me to operate a clutch while looking over my shoulder.
Why are you two typing in white? You don't fool me! |

Stalled my 09 Corvette first drive with salesman. It was in 3rd instead of 1st gear. DOH! Nervous and anxious moment. Said to myself, f - it, I'm paying $xxxxxx, I'll do whatever I damn well please.

My Sister had a 454 Monte Carlo back in the late 70s when I first got my license, it did not have positive traction. I can remember leaving a black mark and a smoke screen for what seemed like forever, the only problem was the car just sat there for a few seconds and the smoke from the driver's side tire would catch up to the windows. It was an automatic and it went through all 3 gears in the first hundred feet before down shifting back to 2nd gear and burning the tire off again. This thing was a joke. I just can not imagine having a 300 HP car with single traction.

On a dry road LSD is good because it sends power to both wheels and gives you better traction. On wet or slick roads LSD is bad because the one wheel that otherwise would have kept the rear end centered in your lane is spinning out of control with the other wheel.

your rear end is composed of two axles and a differential. A standard differential allows for the two wheels to spin at different rates for turning because the outside wheel will be faster the inside. The problem is when one wheel has no traction the differential will put all power on that wheel.
When its a limited slip differential the two axles will only be allowed two turn at different rates so much before it tries to even out the power to the wheels. Or you can watch "My Cousin Vinny" which is a great movie and explains this. |
