Style - why run a butt-ugly wheel on a gorgeous car?
Price - if you dont have the budget, there is no use looking for a 20k set of wheels
Weight/trak function - you dont WANT to run a heavy wheel, but I havent seen any data that a 35lb OEM rear wheel will make me get to 65mph any slower than a 25lb ugly wheel assuming they are both the same diam. Now, Autocrossing may be a different story... but that wasnt part of the question

For my own vehicles,

Style first and foremost. I will not sacrifice anything to pick the wrong wheels, or settle for less. When I build a project car, I usually spend weeks figuring out the exact wheel style I want to run on the car. I buy those wheels.

1. Style/Fitment
2. Price/Quality
3. Weight doesn't matter much to me, unless I'm building a racecar.

so true about cost. Most wheels are overpriced. I've owned many styles and brands of wheels throughout my lifetime and I've learned not to pay a ton for overpriced "forged" wheels. Alot of times we are paying for the name. In my experience I've learned that there are very good quality cast wheels that run as smooth as any other expensive forged wheel.
I had an expensive set of forged wheels on my Tundra and they were the worst, could never get them to balance so I got rid of them put on a set of cast Moto Metal wheels on the same set of tires and what a difference. Perfect balancing , no chipping on the chrome etc..............lasted for years.
So for me it's price and style combined . Besides most of us buy wheels for looks and there are plenty of cool looking wheels that will cost a fraction of some of these forged wheels that are out there. No wheel in the world is worth $500.00 to $1,000 a piece.
