Arrow What is the best motor oil to use in a 1998-2002 LS1?

I'm wondering what is the best weight of motor oil to use in a
1998-2002 LS1 engine in a desert climate where tempertures
can get 100+* in summer and around 32+* in the winter?
What is the best brand motor oil to use? I have always used
Mobil 1 in all the vehicles I ever had.Does GM highly recommend
using Mobil 1 in a LS1 engine?

1. If I recall correctly, my 01 SS called for 5w-30, but to make sure either check your owners manual or call a Chevy service dept.

2. Some people swear by _____ (insert any brand here) of synthetic oil. When I began running synthetic oils I exclusively used Mobil 1 for years.....now I'll use whatever name brand is on sale and meets the spec.

3. C5 Corvettes (LS1 & LS6) came with Mobil 1 from the factory.......I would consider that "Highly recommend".

Good info.
I read on LS1 Tech that Mobil 1 is endorsed by GM engineering for
a number of reasons.GM recommends synthetic motor oil that's
a fact. Also the correct weight motor oil to use in a 1998-2002 LS1 engine
is 5W30.Make sure to use a motor oil that is API certified and has
recommendation to use on GM vehicles.I would always make sure
that you change your oil and filter on time every time to prolong
the life of your engine.

I stick with AC Delco. Some guys swear by the Mobil 1 filters, but I figure if GM thinks the "regular blue" filters are good enough for synthetic oil from the factory, they're good enough for me.

Thanks.
True from what I have read the blue AC Delco oil filter has
a excellect internal design for these engines.I'm just wondering
what oil filters people are using on their cars.

I run 10W-30 Vavoline maxlife synthetic blend and an AC Delco filter. Occasionally I run Mobile 1 full synthetic when AutoZone has the special going on it. Never have had any problems and she's going on 162,000 miles now.
