Question about allocation

My local dealer has been trying to order my camaro for the past few weeks and finally he said that next week we are supposed to get a production date. I was just wondering since we haven't even got the date yet, when should I be getting my car? I told him I wanted to have it by mid to late May and he said that it should be in by then, but is he just telling me that?

It is really hard to say before you have a TPW, but I would think late May is probably realistic. They have been quoting around 5-6 weeks from when your order is accepted. That is for coupes though. The convertibles have been taking considerably longer. Also, what color did you order? I think that they have basically stopped making the metallics for the time being, because of a raw material that they cannot get from Japan right now. Fbodfather also talked about production delays and even shut downs due to their parts suppliers not being able to get parts or materials from Japan. It is a bit of a crap shoot right now, but the sooner you get your order in the better. Frankly, though, if he didn't have allocation when you were ready to order, I would have gone with someone else.

Ask for your order # and input it on camarotracking.com Then you can track it yourself. My dealer had a similar problem, if you don't have any reason not to believe your dealer, then wait the week. They'll know by Tuesday if they got any allocations for the week. I think it takes 6-10 weeks for delivery after you are at status 2000 (meaning order accepted by GM)

Your dealer doesn't TRY to order your car, he orders it.
Once it's ordered in the system, you have an order number. This can be done whether there is allocation or not.
Ask the dealer what your order number is, if he can't provide it, he hasn't even ordered your vehicle.
If he has an order number, ask him what event code your order is at right now.
If your event code is 1100, and you've been there for more than 3-5 days, your dealer doesn't have an allocation for your order, and your car will not be built until the dealer has an allocation.
GM won't even think about starting to make your vehicle until you move past 1100.

Okay I am going to ask him tomorrow for the order number and see what I am at, and about not making any of the metallics, is there any truth to that? I heard they weren't making cyber gray, but that was it.

Oh and if it hasn't gotten to 2000 yet, can I still change the color choice?

Yes, you can change color up to at least 3100...maybe even higher.

I placed an order from a local dealer and got the major run around about my order. When I placed the order they said 6 to 8 weeks for delivery, then the order sat at 1100 status....and sat....and sat. At the the time I didn't know about the allocation so I kept calling the dealer asking WTF? They never said a word about allocation until I saw it on this forum and cornered them about it. They never would come up with a date the order would be accepted, nor would they give me any updates unless I called them. In the mean time I started doing a search in ever widening circles and found a dealer about an hour away that had advertised the exact same car that I ordered. I called them about it and come to find out that car wasn't even there yet. It was in transit to them and it was a night and day difference from dealer to dealer about updates, they kept me informed of every move that car made. They called me on a Monday that it was there and being detailed. I went out Tuesday and ended up calling the first dealer and told them to cancle my order (it was still sitting at 1100). The first dealer didn't cancle the order and it was at least 4 months before it showed up there. I drive past it every day as it sits there, all the dealer had to do was be up front and they wouldn't have lost a sale.

Before I ever order a car again I will do a wide search. You never know what is around.

He says he is going to get me the order # tomorrow, because right now he is on the road. I am really hoping that I get the car by the time frame he gave me from the beginning.

Well I am at 1100, supposedly getting an allocation next week, should I cancel this because it doesn't look like late May is possible? I have another dealer that has a production week of 5/13 so i might just do that
