That part # is just the 2nd gear blockers. I haven't taken apart a 2011 so I couldn't tell you. I'm still looking for a volunteer.

Exclamation GEAR OIL SAMPLE TAKEN

This past Saturday night I put the car on jackstands and drained a few cc's of the transmission fluid into the oil sampling bottle. I wrote up the specifics about the car and trans and mailed it to the lab in Bakersfield, CA earlier today. I should get an email from the lab in a couple of days after their analysis is complete. It should tell me what particulate matter is found in the fluid, percentage of concentration, what gears/synchro material they find. With 3000 miles on the car this would be a great indicator as to what is happening internally with this transmission. It will give me a bit more leverage with the dealer if I can go to them with facts. They can take a look at the car's data box and see it hasn't been hammered on. I will post up the results as soon as they are known. I am driving the car to CamFest so it will get some long distance miles on it for the first time.

Is this still an issue on Newly Ordered 2011's?

Well, I've had this problem from day 1 with this car, which was the inspiration for my moniker. I've had the car for a year and only drive it on weekends, it has 4100 miles and at 2000 miles I paid out of pocket to have 2nd gear fixed (because I assumed the modifications made to the car voided the warranty). A couple weeks ago it began grinding again, so I just ordered and installed a Level 6 TR6060 from RPM. So, $6K later and I think I've resolved the problem GM built into my car. :(

I see that Tremec has a production facility in Mexico, I'm not sure what's worse, Mexicans or overpaid UAW workers building car parts. It seems the reliable components on this car come from Canada or Australia.

This entire thing with this car is a disgrace !!!

My issue with my transmission didn't seem as bad as this grinding issue. My car was locking me out of 5th gear under hard acceleration and it even did it sometimes while accelerating during lane changes. It was so frustrating dealing with this issue on a brand new car. I feel bad for the people that are getting screwed by their dealerships when they are trying to get their transmissions fixed.

I've had that happen once or twice. I don't think the problem is that it's locking you out of 5th, your probably just going to far right with the shifter and it thinks you're trying to go into reverse, which it is indeed locking you out of.

nope, that's definitely not the case. at first i thought that's what i was doing but that's definitely not the case.

i'm not trying to smash it into 5th. i very calmly try to shift into 5th and it won't do it.

Exclamation OIL SAMPLING RESULTS FROM QUINN MACHINERY

I received the gear oil analysis via email this evening and have converted the report to a photo so you can read it. It came as a PDF file. As you can see, the summary is of interest. Based on the initial findings it is wise to just CHANGE the factory oil regardless of shifting caused damage. I will defer to Rick for any other comments since he is the trans guru. I will proceed to take the car back to the Chevy dealer and have the oil changed or see if they will use my Royal Purple that is standing by on my shelf. The analysis is worthwhile and I think it will help push the case. For $20 and rapid turn around via email I am pleased.

Took me about an hour to read every single post on this thread and all I can say is hooooooooly crap. I feel like I've been scared crapless out of buying a manual but I still really want to. Still no TSB on this? Dealers still pretending they can't hear anything? Or being bold enough to insist that something like this is NORMAL? Those videos made me cringe!

EDIT: What about the TSB I see in the TSB thread on this site that addresses the V6 M6's? Couldn't you take that to the dealer to make them pay more attention?

Nothing scary about it.
My VIN is below 35,000. Got my car in Aug09. Just past 30,000 miles no transmission issues. Still shift fine, no issues.
