Actually, I've known a quite a few people like that. I was one, but my money went to college, not a car.

Back in 1979-1981 I cleaned boat bottoms for 20 bucks an hour, I worked night shift at Wendy's for minimum wage, I worked for my father building houses at 7 bucks an hour, and I picked strawberries and cucumbers in the summer for a pittance. This, on top of playing Football and being involved in filming game tape for the basketball team.

I also had multiple paper routes in the morning and had been doing that sort of thing since I was 12.

I had about $10,000 saved up before I hit 16...but it didn't go to a car. I did buy my Charger for 1000 dollars though my 2nd year in college. $10,000 then is probably worth a LOT more then.

As someone else said, not every 16 year old kid is a punk that has no idea how to work hard. Many are, but you can't just assume every one is.

The difference here is that you don't have any idea what the actual situation is.

To start, I paid under $32k for my 2011 1SS....let's assume he got a player deal on a 2010 2SS for around $32k....which isn't impossible...

Now let's say he's worked the last 2 summers and saved up all his money in between from gifts and what not....he could have saved up....$4000?

That makes the car around 28k to finance....payments somewhere in the 450-500 range....insurance is most likely under his parents....so it's gonna be cheaper than on his own....but he's paying let's say $200..

I made $700 a month working for 6 months at a computer store when I was 16 in HS....I worked every day after school and all weekend long to get 25 hours.

It can be done, and if the car matters to the kid more than video games or other crap, he'll get it done...

I managed to come up with 4k in HS to buy a 65 Impala SS.....so yeah.... call me a little annoyed...

A lot of people. Believe it or not, some kids are actually smart with their money.

I was watching TV while home over Winter Break a few months back and some kids were on the news talking about how they were making some extra cash by shoveling snow off driveways. Made me think about how much money I could've made in grade school/high school doing that, especially with my dad's snowblower.

Missed opportunity right there. But some kids now are capitalizing on it, and they'll have a nice wad of cash saved up by the time they're done.

I mod xbox 360s as a side job (I'm in school full time), I used to just do it for all my friends and family for free lol.

I make about 400 bucks a month doing about 10 hours of work, total.

It's possible to do.

What he said.

"Classism", jelousy, envy, or whatever you decide to call it, has absolutely nothing to do with my reservations of a young, inexperienced, and more oftern than not, immature driver having the keys to such a powerful vehicle.

This needs to come to and end, seriously if you can't handle younger kids driving nice cars, look up Justin Bieber driving a Lamborghini. That car probably costs more than some people on here's houses. Honestly, suck it up.
i can relate to you. i am also 19 and man i have gotten a lot of hate in the past. at one point in time people were saying i don't have a camaro. i had to post a video and pics to prove to people. we live in american they are sooooo many kids with expensive cars.

Agreed. When these threads do pop up, there's the people that express concerns about them not being responsible enough...something I understand.

I think it's the other posts I described that we need to get rid of.

BUTTTTTTTTTT that applies to alllll people not just a certain age. Everyone is inexperienced with high hp cars until they finally drive one and continue to do so. You can be 15 or 40 and be just as inexperienced and it won't matter. Maturity resides in the individual NOT the age.

I agree with the OP. However, I do not particularly enjoy the company of people that brag. Although I do it from time to time by just mentioning the fact that I own a Camaro to friends. But to me when you say something like. "Hi everybody, I just bought a Camaro, I paid cash for it" is bragging. You know why? Most people can't afford to pay cash for a new $30,000 car (well, if you can afford to pay for it over 5 years, you can afford to pay cash for it 5 years later ). But yes, bragging does rub me the wrong way sometimes. I totally understand that sometimes you just want to show off the cool things you customized your car with, but to say how you paid for them or that you are super young is kind of just pointing out the fact that you are better than somebody for some reason. Either, "I got my car at a young age, and 99% of you are older than me." Or "I paid cash for a car and 90% of you financed it." Either way, it's pretty much just bragging, and these facts could be left out if you don't want to get jealous responses.

This is true to a certain point, at a young age people tend to be alot crazier behind the wheel, myself included. Not all younger people are like this but considering when high school lets out i have people swirving to the other side of the road tryin to impress their friends......dumb. Again not everyone will be like this.

There is nothing wrong with your mom or dad buying you the car. Just don't try and BS us that you and you alone are buying a nearly 40K car. It ain't happening.
Never said I make all the payments. I stated that my dad helps me on the payments that I can not pay. On top of that, nobody asked about insurance. I will be glad to say that my dad pays for my insurance. If he did not pay for it, I would not be able to afford this car and therefore would not have one.
