Can I say that I got mine and I am 49? Just kidding. I think if the parental units have the 'wisdom' to give the chillins a sports car that can criple or kill in the blink of an eye(potentially) then who are we to cast the stone? And we leave it at that. And we say congrats for being a Camaro owner! And we move on. And we trust in their judgment. So on with the party!!!

There are bridges in Florida though. You should sell him some ocean front property in Arizona. That's a much better deal . :P

Then when I was 19, being a car salesmen, my father bought me a 2004 sierra (20s, flowmaster, you name it), I helped him with the payments, but in no way did I flaunt my ride like a 16 year old with a camaro.

No 16 year old should have their hands on a machine like that, that's the parents fault.

I am 26, finally got my real career started as a cop, make good enough money to buy a 1LT camaro and I am happier than a clam because I did it myself. I didn't need help. It's a self-respect matter. Any 16 year old who brags about having a Camaro, should really look at themselves and say "Did my parents do me any favors by buying this for me, or should I work for the thing myself."

My father managed Chevy dealers for years, and had the money to buy me anything I wanted at 16, but he made me drive my mothers Volvo. And let me drive whatever I wanted when I worked with him. Sure it was a tease, but he showed me that if you work hard for what you want, and if the timing is right, then not only will the people around you be appreciative of your effort and your reward, but you can hold your head high and say "I deserve it, because I worked for it.

"America is the land where we judge you by what you do, not by who your father was."
-Colonel Josh Chamberlain, 20th Maine, US Civil War

I think we need to judge people for who they are, not by what their father bought them.

this, FTW.

When I turned 16, my parents made me buy my own car (10 year old 68 Dodge), my own insurance, gas, repairs, everything. It taught me the value of the car, money, and budgeting. I was fully responsible for it.

While it may be nice to do that for a kid, its not doing them any good; except maybe to come here with the attitude mentioned by others.

And, no - we don't need rules. Free speech should be as free as possible, thanks.

Yes, he had to have his dad help him get it, but he paid for it....and continued to pay the payments/insurance by himself.

You don't know what the kid has financially, nor do you know what the kid does to make his money.
well explained and very very true
