1000 people is the accepted polling number to extrapolate a pattern that can be expected in the general population. Remember the ole +- 3% thing. That's where it comes from.

From a marketing standpoint it makes perfect sense to have a auto option. Lets says your a potential buyer looking at getting a high hp pony car but you really want a auto. Well Ford doesnt offer it with the GT500 so GM would be producing something that Ford doesnt have and have a leg up in the market. It would not cost anything to make considering the CTS-V already has the 6L90E auto option. Thinking about a ZL1 with a aftermarket stall and tune gives me goosebumps and would be a force to be reckoned with.
