Deficit reduction.
Reduced use of fossil fuels.
The remaining supplies of crude oil are too important to be pissed away on cheap transportation.
When it's gone it's gone.
There is no obvious replacement for crude oil.

Like I said, in the long run it will be better for the next generation and even for us in a few years time.

I think it's cheap now. Too cheap.
People are taking cheap fuel for granted and living their lives accordingly.
Prepare for the future now or prepare to be really f%#ked in a few short years time.
See how the Europeans live now for a preview of your future.
It's obvious nobody here has taken the time to read any of the links I posted.
If you think it's bad now, wait 2 years.

Anyway, I'm definitely going against the grain on a forum where people are all excited about tuning their cars to 500+ hp and getting crap mileage yet they think gas prices are "unfair" so I'll stop now.

I read your links and understand what your saying, were arguing about the unknown causes which give rise to the price. And like your link stated, up to 32% is taxed, thats a shit load and im sure theres more for some.
For example, there were many causes that led to the recession. But what were the gas prices around that time? What was happening to auto sales? What was happening to dealers and factories producing cars, producing parts for cars, producing materials for cars? Well everyone got screwed, my family and many out there were screwed. Alot had to do with the rise in fuel prices. Now can some one explain to me, while were just building on the recession, recovering, why the hell would we tax gas further with the HST? How does that make any sense?
Your point seems to be that high prices should be a deterent for people to stop using gas senselessly, but look at the people who use the gas most. Your link stated it, I still dont see why our gas costs rise for unknown reasons. Maybe im ignorant, im trying to understand this but im still not seeing the causes for these high prices, and im talking about the unknown rises, and the HST

Most people also miss the obvious about rising fuel prices. It's not just the daily driver paying more, we're all paying more.

For those defending the rip off artists, did you ever think how your everyday products get to you, how this affects public transit? This topic has nothing to do with us folk with, what has been critisized as: gas guzzlers, high horsepower cars, living the high life, but rather the unjust actions by our, oil companies & government.

It's been stated that oil companies sell to the highest bidder, in their stake holders, and that reflects on the crude prices, but the governments doesn't help by taxing it to death, and driving a stake through it (HST added).

The latest news is that drivers have to prepare for $1.50/L this summer, it's the driving season, but the prices are expected to fall in September, no one see the corruption in that?.

Prices are different across the country, by leaps & bounds, yet, some people don't see this as a problem, or any wrong doing
GIVE YOUR HEADS A SHAKE! I DON'T CARE WHAT THE REST OF THE WORLD IS PAYING FOR GAS, I LIVE IN CANADA AND WATCH HOW THINGS ARE DONE HERE.
ONE DAY ALL THE GOVERNMENTS ON THIS SIDE OF THE WORLD WILL EXPERIENCE THE PUBLIC REVOLT LIKE IN LIBYA, AND BEYOND, FIGHTING BACK AGAINST CORRUPT GOVERNMENTS...I DON'T THINK I'LL BE AROUND LONG ENOUGH TO ENJOY IT! :fighting0040:

Absolutely Frank, I have been saying this for years, the ability to lead only exists if people are willing to follow. From what I have seen lately, we are in a sorry state of affairs. We have a global recession thanks to only a handful of people. How F@#%ed up is that. How can you tell when a politician is lying......his lips are moving. Government committees pshh, here is how that goes, government "Mr. Oil Co. Exec. are you screwing the little people for the sake of bigger profits and a bigger year end bonus?" Oil Co. Exec. "No", Government "really?" Oil Co. Exec "really!". Government committee "good enough for us, what time do we tee off Mr. Oil Co. Exec.?" They then all get up from the round table and do one these Maybe we should start a "spoil your ballet" campaign, by writting accross the bottom of the ballet on election day, NONE OF THE ABOVE.

I think the collapse on this side of the world is a lot closer then most would care to believe.

Oil shortages and environmental decline could create 'global quagmire': military report
Sunday, April 17, 2011
By Mike De Souza, Postmedia News

Energy security and global environmental change are factors that could radically alter society as well as the role of Canada’s military a new study suggests.

KINGSTON, Ont. — The planet is running out of oil and heading toward a future that could trap Canada in a violent spiral of decline in the economy and the environment, a special research unit within the Canadian military is predicting.

This "global quagmire" is one of four possible future scenarios advanced by the six members of the team who are developing a plan for the army of tomorrow based on existing scientific research and analysis.

In a best-case scenario, they predict that Canada could be at the forefront of a prosperous green economy, in which clean energy and environmental protection are priorities and living standards improve around the world.

Two other scenarios fall in between, but all four alternatives conclude that energy security and global environmental change are the most serious and unpredictable factors that could radically alter society as well as the role of Canada's army.

"It all depends on what kind of steps are taken today that could lead to various futures," Peter Gizewski, a strategic analyst on the team, told Postmedia News.

Members of the team said that climate change in particular could have a wide range of consequences, as well as oil shortages in a world with no alternative sources of energy.

"I don't think anybody would claim that we're all doomed in the sense that we're all going to face the same level," said Gizewski. "But there are parts of the world in some areas where armed conflict could occur that are particularly vulnerable to these things."

The team has also noted that the world is now consuming oil faster than it's being discovered.

"Globally, we find more (oil) all the time, but we haven't actually found as much as we've used in a given year since 1985," said Maj. John Sheahan, another member of the research team.

"From the long (term) view, it's guaranteed that something else will take over (as an energy source), we just don't know what or when. . . . Nobody has yet come up with the solution (so) that we can (continue to) do the things we do now and have done for decades. So it is possible that the time line is against us."

Sheahan noted that the price of a full tank of gasoline, even at $100, is a bargain when compared to estimates in some research that it would be equivalent to about 25,000 people each doing one hour of work.

The global quagmire scenario predicts a world ravaged by climate change and environmental degradation in which "markets are highly unstable" and there are high risks of widespread conflicts involving ownership and access to oil, water, food and other resources.

"Indeed, the danger of resource wars, both between and within states is acute," said a technical paper produced by the group in December. "Much of the violence occurs in the developing world, as dictators, organized crime groups and revolutionary movements fight for control of increasingly desperate societies. Yet developed countries are by no means immune from strife."

"As environmental conditions worsen, elements of society lash out against the ongoing exploitation of the Earth's resources and the irreparable damage it causes. Often, action turns violent with acts of terrorism directed against select government officials and corporations becoming ever-more salient."

In the best-case scenario, the team predicts that Canada could take a leadership role in the alternative energy and environmental fields after a series of technology sharing agreements with emerging economies and active support of developing sound international regimes and practices.

Other drivers of change analyzed by the team were: the impact of age and demographics on military composition; exponential technology growth; human/social response to technology; expansion of operating environments; globalization; conflicting/shifting identities; shifting power balance; resource security; distribution of wealth and weapons proliferation.

But members of the team said that energy security and environmental change are factors with the highest potential impacts and the greatest uncertainty.

The findings are similar to recent studies by oil giant Royal Dutch Shell as well as research from other countries such as the United Kingdom that warn excessive energy use can be an "Achilles heel."

"There is growing recognition that we need to factor this into our thinking," said Rear Admiral Neil Morisetti, the U.K.'s climate and energy security envoy from the Ministry of Defence and Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

"We need to try and treat it like any other threat we face. We need to understand more about it and how it's going to impact our national interests, how we can act to reduce the risks and the threats. We're not going to have 100 per cent certainty, but then we're not going to have 100 per cent certainty on the battlefield."

The Canadian research team, led by Lt.-Col. Michael Rostek from the Directorate of Land Concepts and Designs in the Canadian Forces, has finished a draft of a more complete document — Army 2040: A First Look — that is now under review.

"It's in the hands of the senior army staff as we speak, waiting to move it forward to publication," said Rostek, the concepts team leader at the directorate. "We figured it's the right time to publish it now and get it on the streets so that we could actually not only get some discussion, but also to provide a framework for our next step ahead."

The military knows what's coming.
Get prepared now for your children's sake.
Short term thinking about useless and ineffective boycotts and whining about gas tax cuts to a politician because you want cheap fuel for your muscle car this summer will not help you prepare for the future.

Do we really know what the future holds for us? I say not.
I hope that when I get to retirement age, the government cheque doesn't bounce.

Of course their(politicians') cheques won't that for sure. I don't know what kind of world our children will have to look forward to.

The only gurantee in life...DEATH & TAXES!

Today's the FIRST DAY, that I heard the mention about energy prices, come up, on the news, from a politician.
How predictable is this, with less than 2 weeks to go, for the election, now they'll beat the gas & hydro increases to death, and make it an election issue.

Do you really think people are going to believe what they (politicians) say, I know I don't. Anything to sway you to vote for "them". Then when they get into power, they'll do exactly what ALL the other political parties have done...NOTHING!
They don't care about gas prices, their town cars, SUVs, are always filled with gas, PAID BY THE TAX PAYER!

Ignatif is probably going to inrease the tax

Pumped $30 today, got 22L 87.....going to be a fun summer
And I agree Frank, every time the driving season comes, or a long weekend, we see spikes in gas prices. What the hell causes that? Obviously people taking advantage of the consumer. Im going to rob a bank soon enough, why, because of the HST and bullshit rises in gas prices which affect all of our products and consumption. Time to get level on the corruption game with the Government

Oh and on a side note, people act like the taxes are good and have real good benefits. What about all those scandals, stupid politicians and their expense accounts that use our money to pay for their child's sweet sixteen?
This rise in fuel costs is just another method of the city trying to encourage us to use costly public transit

Not that it makes it cheaper, but at least you're using regular, I could too but I know it's not good for the V8's.

Don't forget the preaching about taxes (tire, fuel, etc.) are suppossed to be used for our roads and infrustructure.
Then why are our roads in such dismay, why is our infrustructure errupting more than the volcanos around the world?
I'll tell you why, beacuse the powers that be, steal from the working person, to better their life.

Do you notice how many politicians hold degrees in law, etc. yet they can't land a job in that field, and have to become a politician, which only requires a couple of months of lies to get elected into office? Why do you think that is?

Well, owning a firearm and over 500 rounds of ammo will help. "Those who beat their swords into ploughshares will work the fields for those who did not."

And all these people who whined and bitched about Bush's wars for oil....yeah? So what? Our way of life depends on the stuff. If it means we get to preserve our way of life I say invade every third world nation that has oil under its surface, subjugate the population and take their oil. And no, India and China don't get any.
