If you are staying with the stock tune, then the JRE test showed the CAI to have the edge, although Roto-Fab has made some tweaks to their design since then. If you are going to tune, then it shouldn't matter as much. Both systems are of high quality.

def look at the janetty test, but there are 3 or 4 other tests with the roto fab with much improved numbers.
cant go by just one test. Ted has much respect on here, and for a reason but that test just didnt do roto fab justice
it is if not equal to CAI's then it is slightly better or slightly under. I think within a hp or 2 from the other test results.
check the threads. dont take my word for it.

The only thing that I did not like about either was the fact that the rubber seal on the Roto-Fab will eventually tear the hood insulation up and it will look like S&%t and no longer seal like it should to perform at peak performance.

I have a few thousand miles on my Roto-Fab box with no tearing or wear.

I have several thousand miles on my Roto-Fab.The bulb that contacts the hood insulation is very soft and compliant.
I highly doubt it will chew through the hood insulation.
The fit is very precise and puts very little pressure on the hood.
This past pollen season,I could see where the pollen collects at the hood contact point, but does not pass though.I would gently wipe the hood insulation clean with a damp cloth.
I was impressed with the workmanship and design quality.

I picked the CAI. I did like the looks of the Roto but I like the closed box of the CAI. Plus the CAI will not get dirty when you have the hood up as much as the open box of the Roto.

I think either one would work great.

Tough decision, but I just bought the Roto-Fab. I was really torn between the both of them. Now I have to decide on what exhaust!

I have a 2003 Avalanche with a K&N that I thought the same when I bought it. Now the insulation is torn everywhere the rubber touches. I only have 57000 miles on it now and I don't remember when it started to do this, but it is happening. I do agree that they both are well built, much better than the K&N was in 2003 when I bought and installed it.

Installed my C.A.I. brand CAI (weird wording, I know) last week. I say it's all visual preference some people like the closed box; some people like the open box. I did plenty of research beforehand and they both get great reviews.

We use the same bulb type seal on all of our intakes and have never had a complaint about tearing up the hood liner. Our hose couplers absorb most of the engine rock which means the air box itself sees very little movement. My guess is intakes that have a problem with the hood liner either use a different type of seal or their intake design transfers the motor rock to the air box wall itself which would cause repetitious movement, thus wear.
