My insurance will cover a small (smaller than a dollar bill) crack or a rock chip, but only if there is an impact mark. I can't speak for anyone else here, but in my case there is No impact mark. You can't feel the crack on the inside or the outside. It doesn't start on an edge, it's just there... Our insurance company works with a glass company who says it's unrepairable since it's a stress mark. If we replace the windshield, seeing as it's unrepairable, it'll cost upwards of at least $350 to replace it. So, yeah, going to the dealer instead of shelling out $350 makes sense to me.

Great news however, if it matters to you, insist on a OEM screen. My glass company tried to pass off an aftermarket screen that didnt even fit the car.

I had a 2002 Silverado 2500HD crack for no good reason...but I never really cared, glass is free in MA, no insurance related penalty at all...who really knows what specifically caused yours to crack, these kind of things have always happened...but think about how much less prevalent major internet forums were the last time you bought a brand new car and signed up online for it...

Update, I took my car to the original dealer where I purchased the car. They called GM and was told to replace the glass under warranty. They covered the trunk lid paint chips beside the rear spoiler too. They never hesitated on covering the issues nor tried to claim it was a rock chip. The rep said that it was clearly a stress crack and GM agreed on the phone. The reason that I insist that GM should look at the windshield is that more than one person is having this issue with this car. If there is a manufacturing or design issue, it needs to be brought to GM's attention and the problem fixed or solved. Whats the purpose of replacing windshields when the next one will only crack due to stress too? Everytime you have a windshield replaced, you run the risk of having something else damaged like the paint.

A small rock (very small impact circle, still smooth, half the diameter of a pencil) must have hit within an inch of the top of my windshield, driver's side, and a 4" vertical crack appeared 2 days ago. I wanted to save my windshield, so I had a Safelite guy come and inject resin into the crack. It took about 30 minutes. The crack is 50% less visable, my lowered visor blocks it most of the time. It seems good for now and is not spreading. The $54 repair is covered by a warranty, he would come back for a 2nd fix if necessary or credit on repl. windshield. So far, so good.

Did anyone else have this problem?
I have the exact same crack in the inside glass at exact same place. Dealer told me to pound sand.

thats cool that you could have yours repaired...but some of us are having stress fractures which is not a repairable crack, cause there is no where to inject the resin....

Contact another dealership. If they don't help you, insist on having a rep from GM view the window. Print out the PDF file in the first few posts. PM Jeff Morris from the forum. Do what you can to get it fixed. I wish you the best of luck!

Update
So I just got back from a different dealer and with in 5 min. a new windshield was ordered, no hassle. Didnt even have to show him the printed bulletin. So I originally took it to Concord Chevrolet, Concord, Ca. they were very rude. Today I went to Michael Stead Cadillac in Walnut Creek and they were awesome! Concord Chevy will never get another penny from me no matter what.

When you get your new windshield, you should go back to the first dealer and let them know that a) GM knows about this issue and b) is IS a warranty item. Maybe the next person that has this issue and goes to that dealer will have better luck if the dealer is better informed.
