Help with buying a 2SS

Hello Forum,

I'm on a hunt for a SS to replace my V6. I found a dealer here close by that has a brand new 2010 2SS/RS with a sticker price of $36,xxx

Went in today to look at it and see what kind of specials/offers I could get on it.

The salesman, who I think was quite clueless about camaros because he couldn't tell what model my camaro was by looking at the VIN and when I told him it was a 1LT he didn't know if it had the RS package (which it obviously doesn't because its cloth and has 18 inch tires.

I told him I need to keep payments as low as possible and what was the price of the car. He said they had just dropped the price to 37k...so I proceed to say "That is 1k more than MSRP on a 1 year old car". He said yes the extra 1k comes from some extra thing where they etch the vin on every part of the car so it can be identified (I thought this was standard).

So I just agreed and kept on going. I then asked about chevy's $3,000 rebate for 2010 models and he said he didn't know such a thing and couldn't find any info about it. So is that still going or no?

Don't you guys think that the 2010's should be let go for a price close to 30k since they are a year old? I definitely will not pay MSRP for a year old car...even if is so damn beautiful.

Side note, after 3 attempts a 3 different krogers I went to one just a few minutes ago and finally got my issue of Camaro NOW!

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much in advance!

J.T.

30k for a NEW 2010 2SS/RS seems a little low even for being one year old. I think somewhere in the range of 33-35k would be alright and I would be willing to pay... but dropping 8k on a new car for being 1 yr old is a little much to ask for I think. IMO. Good luck though, you will definitely enjoy the SS...trust me

You're probably right. I've just seen a few people on here who have drove off the lot with a SS for under 30k. I saw one person at 29,500 and another who got it for 27,xxx somehow?!?

Thanks for your input! I can't wait to be in the drivers seat.

Are you interested in a used Rally Yellow 2SS/RS with 2900 miles on it? The car is perfect, and I mean like the day it rolled off the dealer lot. It has black chrome wheels, hurst short throw shifter and MRT axle back exhaust. Asking price is $32K.

I'm looking for white.

Thank you though! I'll let you know if anything changes!

(I'm assuming you're referring to the one at Beckys)

It's not a rebate. It's a manufacturer-to-dealer incentive and the last I remember it's good until May 2nd. I got it with my purchase when I bought mine 3/11/11. Sticker was $38,625 and I paid $33,500. GM's incenting dealers to move their remaining 2010's. I can't remember the link to actually "show" the incentive and when it expires. Perhaps Edmunds. YOU don't get the incentive--your DEALER does but that's $3k you need them to knock off the sticker if the incentive is still active.

There are dozens of us on this board who have purchased new 2010 leftovers this year for $32k-$33k on $38k-$39k stickers. You're getting a terrible deal if you spend more than $5k under sticker for a new 2010 leftover. I wouldn't pay a cent over $31k for the car you're referencing. Most of the remaining 2010 dealer inventory will start going to auctions soon. There are still hundreds of SW 2010's SS's listed on Chevrolet.com

Hell, Zag pricing on 2011's in some areas is already $3k below MSRP. My area is about $2500 under MSRP. Obviously these are coupes and not 'verts.

BTW,

so I proceed to say "That is 1k more than MSRP on a 1 year old car". He said yes the extra 1k comes from some extra thing where they etch the vin on every part of the car so it can be identified (I thought this was standard).
or a crook or a liar or all of these. Also, since 2010's started getting delivered June 2009 it's a LOT more than a year old car.

I'd shoot for $5,000 off sticker too. I just picked one up for about $5,000 off just over a week ago.

J.T., wish I could be more helpful but 2010 L99 and other's info here sounds spot on.

I'm buying OrangeVert from BeckyD, and have found her to be very knowledgeable and helpful. If there's any info you need form the dealer perspective I find she's awesome to talk with.

Good luck in your quest, after test driving a 2SS/RS I was sold on that model, though the V6s are phenomenal cars in their own right - both home runs by Chevy/GM!

It is standard for the manufacture to stamp all parts on the vehicle with the VIN number. If this guy told you that he paid extra to have this done...he straight out lied to you. If he lies about something as stupid as this, then he will lie about the car being in perfect condition.

My dealer quoted me a similar service that involes etching a S/N of some kind on various parts of the car for $299.
