Repaint a different color?

My wife and daughter talked me into buying an inferno orange metallic camaro; it's a nice color and all but just not for me.

I was thinking about having it repainted black since it has the black with orange accented interior and that's the only other color I think might look OK.

My concern is the effect it would have on the value of the car, of course I've already made a ton of mods to the car so the value is probably already shot.

Also, since the color is changing I presume the shop would have to disassemble everything to get in the door jambs, under the hood, and trunk lid.

Thoughts?

The paint job may cost more than the loss in a trade in. I mean if they're going to paint in the door jams and everywhere to hide the orange, it will probably be a several thousand dollar paint job!

Yes repainting it decreases the value of the car, but are you ever going to sell it? Thats my logic anyway. Yes a shop would have to completely disassemble the car to repaint. Depending on paint quality and the shops rate it could be anywhere from $6,000 - $15,000.

Wait a little bit longer and get a black 2012 w/IOM stripes, accents. It might be cheaper in the long run. Or get some more black onto your car to break up all that orange.

Cheaper to trade it for a black car.

What if you painted the top half of the car black? You could have it where you left the orange where rally stripes would be...

If most your Mods are Bolt Ons, take them off and replace with the stock stuff.Might be better to trade it in and take the loss.Like the others said probably going to cost $$$$$ for a great repaint. What do the wife and daughter think?

Factory paint goes on with multiple clear coat layers and is baked at 1200 F degrees. You cannot obtain an equivalent aftermarket paint job.

The "good" news I suppose is that the factory paint makes a good base for your new color, if you insist on doing it. The car does not need as much prep work as is normally the case with repainting.

The factory paint is crap, so you definitely wouldn't want the equivalent.

Haha sorry I'm going to have to disagree with you on the quality of the paint job. I mean I can find multiple threads that address the paint chipping, orange peel, and paint thinness (with PTG readings). Junkman himself says our paint is crap.

It's definitely going to be expensive to repaint the ENTIRE car a different color. I had the exterior of my car repainted and it came out to 4,500.

luckily black is cheap but non the less itll cost. If i were repainting it i would tell you 6-8 if you dont do the jams and closer to 15-20 if you do repaint the door jams after factoring in labor, material, waste, and repair (chips, dings, or deep scratches)
