"Closing point. So if the V8 were to ever die and people were to be upset about the loss of that great sounding engine, it's okay! All they have to do is just finally make a V6 or maybe even a 4 cylinder that has bigger cylinders just like the Ls3 or L99 I mentioned earlier that had two cylinders cut off from. I think it shouldn't have to come to the V8s downfall for such an engine to be created...could you imagine the confusion and the looks on peoples faces if someone decided to break from the norm and crush that whole "V8s the only way to go crowd" because let's be honest...why do most people want a v8 so badly? SOUND...and 99% of those people believe it comes from the number of cylinders."

Sorry about your conclusion being wrong. None of the V8 owners Ive met bought a V8 because of the sound. They went for power and torque first and formost and then a lot have changed exhaust for not just sound but for more power and torque

That's all, no need to be dissing anyone everyone.
I don't think it would. To get it to I would assume the firing order would need to be adjusted, and the timing will obviously be different. I think it would just sound like another V6. That's just a hunch, I am by no means any kind of "expert"

I'm sorry, but it does not exist. I know many people like the V8 over anything else purely for the sound. If they could get that same sound with a 4 or 6 cylinder, they would buy it. It just does not exist. Sorry if I come off as strong or harsh, but seriously now.
I know it does not exist. I stated that IF someone were to build it etc...I never said there is one, just that it is possible

Youre mechanic is an idiot. You know how much a cat back is good for... 2 or 3. Dyno proven. Don't believe the hype.

People really need to my post thourghly because most of what people are firing back with, i had already addressed in my original post. Example. Not as much torque and power as a v8. Go back and read...it's in there

I put a new engine on my snapper mower last year. 3-1/2 more horsepower and it's quieter now. Any idea how I can get that 3hp sound back? My neighbors hardly hear me mowing anymore

This was a PERFECT side by side... so if sound is all cylinder size why did simply adding a cam change so much? The plot thickens... Maybe sound is related to ALL aspects of the engine... stroke, bore, duration, number of cylinders... etc.

Yes I agree. Sme people do not understand that you dont just add te projected power gains numbers together, you have to have all the new parts on and test it and the numbers gained will be just a fraction of the numbers if you just added advertised power gains together. Cai and cat back you'll see maybe 10 hp without tune, maybe...

I'm pretty sure that if it were possible, then it would have been done.

well i can still be doing 130 mph before i leave that onramp thats fast enough for me.
and i like the lower growl so i'll do the exaust mod and my hp is what my hp is.

i love my camaro at 312 hp or 400 hp anyway its only another few grand for the V8 if folks want it ... but for me it was an impulse buy i saw the green and had to have it. i bought it on the spot and surprised my wife with it.

Restrictive exhaust, smaller thinner pipes,...all that will do is make the note a bit higher. Now I see what your getting at. I never said you can make our V6 camaros or other V6s sound like a V8. Everything I said was talking about if the developed a V6 that had the same cylinder displacement and correct timings and angles. But no...it is pretty much impossible to make an exsisting v6 sound like an 8. Closest thing would be adjusting the timing and putting bigger cams in it. YouTube camaro v6 cammed. You'll be surprised. Not quite a v8 but deffinently doesn't sound like a 6
