It's not a generalization, It's just all these people saying their gf/wife can't or don't want to drive manual. I'm sure plenty of women can drive manual cars, but to be honest manual drivers in general are a dying breed. I think in the US Auto cars out number manuals like 10 to 1. This is the first manual car I've owned and it's fun but auto is much more convinent for a daily driver.

Having a manual daily driver has it's ups and downs

Way to much traffic, sitting in 30 - 40 mins of traffic twice a day isnt much fun.

I am looking into getting automatic. The reasons are listed below:

1) Los Angeles traffic is absolutely terrible
2) Fuel efficiency
3) reading about m6 issues is scaring me (don't flame me)
4) family may want to take it out for a spin.

An yes, I know how to drive stick.

I grew up raised by a single mom and she couldn't drive a manual so there were no manuals around to learn on. I don't like to drive other people's cars, so I just never learned. In general I don't get it. It seems to go like this:

"You have more control of the car."

"I have paddle shifters. I hardly ever use them."

"Not the same, you can feel it better in a manual."

"I like the smoothness of the auto."

"You're such a girl!"

"Thanks for noticing."

Other positives: traffic isn't as much of a witch, remote start in and of itself is awesome; coming out to a cool car in summer and a warm car in winter is, too. Better resale/trade-in value as well.

I doubt it would bother too many of them. i understand your perspective, but then there's the other side. Some of them might even feel proud that their spouse got the automatic so they could share in the driving experience (whether forced to or not lol).

Also very glad for you that the women in your life can all drive a manual. Not all women are like that.

My wife cant drive a manual. Doesn't mean she's incapable, she just chooses not to. I mean, i know technically she could; heck if she can go on a combat tour to Iraq, I'm pretty sure driving a stick wouldn't be too traumatic. She simply has no interest.

I'm not gonna lie though, I really wanted a manual. Deciding to go for the auto was an extremely tough call, but seeing her light up everytime she gets to drive it, makes me feel pretty good about making that choice.

just saying

Doesn't bother me. I think it's a statistical fact that most manual owners are male. The women I know who don't drive a manual just have no interest in learning to drive one. I've never met a woman who honestly wanted to drive one but couldn't master it.

BTW, I wonder if the auto is safer since you can't keep both hands on the wheel in a manual?
